Just about a month ago, all four wheels and tires were stolen off of my car at the dealership. After a "go round", I got a call about a week later to pick up my car. I never signed a thing and when I arrived to pick up the car I was never presented with a bill. The assumption was that the dealer finally notified his insurance carrier and repaired the car. I got a call from the owner today telling me that my insurance company had not paid. I told him that they had last called him asking for his insurance information because the car was in his custody and I was not informed that his lot was a haven for criminals. He said that I would have to return the car until I paid the bill. No Way! I called my insurance company. They will pay the bill but I don't want it on my insurance. The agent is calling me back when he gets some answers. Any thoughts. I am furious!!

If the car was in their possesion, their insurance is the one responsible for it. Any chances that they may not have insurance? that wouldn't surprise me at all.
Call Chrysler too, it doesn't hurt.

He has insurance, $1000 deductable. He said he "sent me a bill". I told him to send me the repair authorization where I agreed to pay. There isn't one. I hope he takes me to small claims court. It will be entertaining. I also hope that my insurance company doesn't settle with him.

Something similar actually happened a while ago in Jersey.
I forget the type of car, but they had, from the factory, very expensive headlights in the cars. The dealership sent the car owners a letter requesting they bring the car in so a security device could be installed on the car, making the lights harder to steal or something...
Anyways-while in the lot dealers, the headlights were stolen!!!! The dealership claimed it wasn't responsible since they had voluntarily left their cars their! Well, they got 7 on their side, or the Fox 5 Problem Solvers, I don't really remember...But the dealership wound up paying for the lights AND installing the security feature.
I would hope your dealer decides to do the same...Sometimes, you can't just help but wonder if it was an inside job...
Good luck!

Manda, good point! I feel like I am being harrassed by the dealer right now. I called our Motor Vehicle Dept and they said that the dealer needs to file a claim with his insurance company, not mine but they don't have a form where I can file a complaint. I called customer service at Daimler Chrylser. The man was very sympathetic but they have no power. They will note however the complaint and it could affect their five star rating. In the meantime, I am waiting to hear from my adjuster so he can file a claim with this guy's insurance carrier.

Did you or they call the police and report the theft? I would hope that they called the police to file a report; most insurance companies would require that before they can pay anything. Get a copy of the report ASAP if there is one; if not, demand that the police go to the dealer and take a report from them, since they were in contorl of your car at the time of the theft.
Also, get the name of the delaer's insurance company from them, and forawrd it to your insurance company, and let them fight it out, that's what you pay them for.

They called the police and there is a report. I have called my insurance adjuster and have asked him to get the name of the insurance carrier. We actually thought that this was settled because I got a call telling me to pick up the car. When he told me that I had to return MY CAR until the bill was paid, I said, "like h*ll I will!"

is this an actual Chrysler dealership...??? or a private used

I'd contact your state attorney generals consumer protection division.....

you could also mention going to the local tv station to let them do a story on this dealerships customer service...

Do the have a sign that says "not repsonsible for theft or damage to vehicles left at our facility?"...

DH's truck was "vandalized" by a service tech, he gouged the hood with a flat screwdriver one night...yeah- sure it wasnt an employee- a lot with 1500 cars- Cadillacs, BMW's etcf.. and someone picks a Pick Up with plates on it to mess with?

Long story short, they refused to pay for the repaint..DH's body shop agreed to do the work and fight with the dealership over the money...they finally got paid...after the papers were served for court...

There was so sign, nor did I sign anything on any document advising me that I was responsible for theft from the property. I called the Dept of Consumer Protection as Mickey88 suggested. She advised me that the dealership is solely responsible and to "just walk away from it". If he sues me, go to court and explain it to the judge. In the meantime, I have my car so there is nothing to do at this point. I bought this car new from the dealership, my second Chrysler from them and the third Chrysler altogether. It will be my last from this dealership.
