The 2011 Alaskan Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

Hi :) Is there a thread for excursion reviews other then this one? I have so little time I find myself getting lost @_@ and I need to book soon. Thanks!!!:hippie:

Just wanted to say thanks to all the DISers who have contributed to this thread - it was very helpful in our planning for our Alaska cruise. We had a great time! We are trip reporting it now and enjoying reliving it!

We were on the 9/16/11 sailing...

Juneau: Mendenhall Glacier Float trip...booked through shoretrips.com. Really enjoyed it but you are not floating right up to the glacier...apparently they offer a canoe trip that does this. We had a great time and very light rafting trip.

Skagway: Yukon Expedition booked through Disney. While our guide was great....it was really LONG and kinda boring in all honesty. Sure the train ride was fun and all but there was A LOT of sitting on this excursion and the dog camp they took you too was really quite sad and mud filled. Would not do this one again.

Ketchikan: Rainforest Bear Viewing....AWESOME, AWESOME. Saw 13 bears, including cubs, young and seasoned eagles....totem pole carving was great, raptor center with eagle and owl up close. Great gift shop. We booked this one directly with the rainforest sanctuary and I only wish I would have added on the ziplining too.

Please feel free to ask questions...

We were on the 8/23 sailing.

We did a private tour in Juneau with Juneau Limousine. It was on of the highlights of our trip.

We booked a 4 hour tour. The driver gave us a city tour, panning for gold, Menenhall glacier, a few stops for photos, and more panning for gold. We could of seen more..but the kids really enjoyed panning.

FOr those that have been on the Alaskan cruise...what day was your Alice Tea? There is only one at sea day and then Tracy Arm for Palo brunch and tea and Alice Tea. I don't want have them conflict. Thanks.

Also what was a good day to skip main room dining for Palo dinner? Can someone tell me what the dining days were like? What day was taste of Alaska and what day was pirate night?

The Alice Tea in June 2011 was on Tracy Arm day. About 4 p.m.

THANK YOU! Was there only one? The last cruise we were on had 2 and they both were completely full. I wonder if we could make the high tea AND the Alice Tea? High Tea is at 3 and it only showed up on Tracy Arm day. Did anyone do both?

Does anyone know where there is a list of the dinners and their theme for the Alaskan cruise?

We had a choice of two days. We did the tea on Tracy Army day but wish we would have picked the 2nd day since we were rushing to get outside for the view. Unfortunately, I can't remember when the second day was but assume the at sea day.

This year the at sea day is first. Did they offer the tea both days? I will try to get it for the first at sea day then. I did schedule the high tea at Palo at 3 because I didn't want to miss the chance to get it but have had the same thoughts with it being on our Tracy Arm day. Did you spend most of that day on deck? Is that the day you see Minnie in her Alaskan wear walking on deck?

We had an At Sea day on the first full day and the last full day plus Tracy Arm day. I believe tea was on Tracy Arm and the last at sea day for us. We did Palo High Tea on last at sea day and brunch on first at sea day (Princess tea day).

We watched most of Tracy Arm from our verandah but went on top when we started getting close to glacier. Minnie was in her Alaskan outfit several times including at sea days. Unfortunately, we had no indication of which outfit teh characters would be wearing in the navigator so we had to look first.
