The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

It has also been many years since I have been to Stonehenge but if I remember correctly it is not all that close to London, there was a long bus trip involved.

When I went you could not walk into it because people had been defacing the stones. But that was at least 20 years ago.

Stonehenge was pretty small and there was nothing else out there to see at the time, just some cows.

It is not that close to London & you can't get at the stones they are roped off. Near by Amesbury is worth a look at too as it is similar and not as "touristy". THe cows have been superseded by pigs (well they were opposite when we drove past 2 weeks ago). I think there is a tour company that runs trips where you catch a train to Salisbury & then a coach which reduces travel time

Gydell:

Are you still booked with Silverline? Which hotel are you staying at in Dover that recommended them? I asked our hotel and they had never heard of them.

I can't find any other recommendation other than yours, so I just want to make sure you are still comfortable and on board with them! You're going first so you are my test pilot!

That sounds about right, the Victorians used to take chisels to take a bit home as a souvenier :rotfl: Its of no use for this years cruises but if you're planning a trip to the UK in the future it might be worth saving as I think the long discussed plans to improve the site, return it to more of a prehistoric landscape feel etc have finally gone through and changes should be made by 2012/ Olympics. I'd second that a visit to Avebury just down the road would be more atmospheric and probably more interesting. It has a nice museum too and I don't think Stonehenge even has a visitor centre of any kind.

We received out Stockholm cards in the mail yesterday. It costs about $10 for shipping, but that is one less thing to worry about when you get off the ship. They cover everything we want to do including transportation, so they were a real bargain compared to a Disney excursion. I can't seem to be able to prepurchase the actual Oslo card just a voucher. Anyone manage to get their hands on one?

I'm staying at the Loddington House so I don't know if it is them doing the transfers or not. We are still planning on using them. If they don't show I guess we will be taking the train!

I'm in the same boat as Gydell... I've made a reservation with them, but haven't put any money down, or given them a credit card. If they don't show, I'll be joining Gydell on the train!

Ditto here, too. I'm not as worried about getting to the port as I am about (almost in a panic!) getting from the port to the airport. We'll be cutting it close to make our flight. In fact, we didn't really want to pay for a driver to the port (would have much rather taken a train), but we thought it would make us feel better about being picked up after the cruise.

I have booked with them also. From Dover to the hotel in London. Here's hoping!

Here are pictures of the Berlin train that were sent to one of my cruisemates on the June 12 cruise. They were sent by DCL. Thought we would share!

Thank you.

Do you know?? For thoose who have booked the Private DCL van and reserved train, where you are supposed to get 'reserved' seating, how they will do that, do that put names on those, tags??

Sorry I can't answer your question Andrew. Someone on our thread got the photos, yet they didn't have enough posts to post them, so I posted them for her. Wish I could be more help.

No probs,

Just wondering how they will do it, as I have booked it, thanks for photos.

Hello
Those who have already purchased your Oslo Card not Pass, could you provide the website. The one from an earlier post only shows the Pass.
Also, how far is it to the Visitor's Centre to turn in your voucher?
Thanks,
Heidi

This may have already come up but has anyone hear of London Tours? We will be arriving Friday a.m. and want to do a 1/2 day tour and The City, Crown Jewels, Tower, St. Paul's & River Cruise in London they offer starts at 12:30 p.m. so it works. I would appreciate any insight. Thanks.

What is the difference between the Card and Pass?

You're arriving on a friday morning from PA and intend to go on a half day tour starting at 12:30 pm the same day?
You don't think you might be a bit jet lagged:confused3

I'm keeping my first day with minimal walking as I don't know how we'll feel:confused3 (London Eye and river cruise were recommended to me as easy first day activities)

I've heard from others that you want to have something planned as you don't want to sleep the day away, but that certain things are easier than others.

DCL has been paid, and we just paid for our flights!!! We're going!!

I'm a bit late in trying to figure out what to see, so if anyone has sugguestions I'm all "ears"

Traveling with DW, DD14 & by then DD10

Which sailing?

You want to go to the meet thread for your sailing to find out info pertinent to your time of sailing.

This thread has some great info:thumbsup2

I would say if you intend to book a hotel in London pre or post cruise you should get on that first.

Welcome aboard:goodvibes

We are on the 6/24 sailing

We have tentative hotels in London (before and after) but nothing else yet.

:confused3

time to spend time on the computer :surfweb::surfweb::rotfl:

Our typical plan when flying eastbound is to catch a nap on the plane and then be relatively active on that first day, getting to bed at nine or ten that evening. This resets my internal clock relatively painlessly.
