The 2008 American Idol Thread.....

I didn't watch AI last night and am unfamiliar with the four that left but could picture them if I knew what songs they sang. Could anyone tell me?

Wow, that was a weird show last night. The group performance made me :lmao: It looks like the AI producers are actually trying to make the show as ridiculously cheesy as possible. They all sounded horrible and looked ridiculous. I hate those group performances!

The way they got rid of Garrett was horrible... they were just like "Garrett, you're gone. Bye. Get off the stage." :rotfl: I didn't like his singing but I loved how laid back and chill he was... it was like he didn't care where he was or what he was doing, it was all good. :lmao: The girls going home was no surprise but Colton should NOT have been going home. He was actually in my Top 6! Tuesdays performance may not have been his best, but he wasn't bad and he was entertaining, plus he was awesome all through Hollywood. And Simon was BRUTAL. I hate how they put singers down by saying they could be "Broadway." Don't you remember... if you could make it there, you could make it anywhere. Half of the contemporary singers today would be lucky to make it to Broadway and most of them never would. I hope Colton continues doing what he's doing and makes it far. He's a good kid with a good voice.

As for Amanda, I thought she looked good last night! She looked younger and a little less scary... yet still very scared. She just looks so uncomfortable up there. American Idol is all about being cheesy and you can tell she's a tough cookie so it was funny to see how uncomfortable she was bopping and dancing along to the group number! :lmao: But I agree with Tammie, she has no personality.

Bring on next week!

My take on Amanda is that she has no personality. Even if she does have talent - which I'm not completely convinced of at this time, she seemsl like the type that would tell a seven year old to get out of her way when approached for an autograph. She just looks snippy and grouchy.

I think it's her ATTEMPT to look cool and edgy... I guess it didn't work!! :cool1:

I agree, homegirl... saying someone is "Broadway" is a BIG compliment. Saying someone is "pop" is NOT. Any doofus with a synthesizer and a mixer can cut a record.

i hate that they make them sing the songs again. obviously they've left because we didn't like to hear them, why are you making us sit thru it again??

This is why I love my DVR. I wait until it's over before I start watching and then I fast forward through the singing. I watched the show in a half an hour, it was great.

I wasn't at all surprised with the girls that got eliminated.

Joanne- I agree she didn't do well Tuesday night at all, but I'm sorry I'll never get to hear her do well
Amy- Good choice
Colton- I was a little bit surprised. I was so hoping it would be Danny or Chikezie
Garrett-Sorry to see him go. I like the sound of his voice and would have liked to see what he could do. Again, it should have been Danny!

Ranatra! Are those your grandchildren in your sig? How cuuuuute! :cutie:

RyMickey... you continue to AMAZE me in your ability to tell those girls apart. It must be in the Y chromosome...:surfweb:

Robin -- DolphinDan hasn't been here much...someone's gotta take his place...

I think I'm kinda with you on this. I originally liked her, but I agree that I think she may just be one-note. It's weird because you can tell that she's totally uncomfortable in the group songs. When Joanne left there was no no hug (of course, Kristy didn't hug Amy either...but Chikezie hugged Colton...go figure)...not the "typical" AI stuff. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I wonder if she didn't know what she was getting into.

I agree with you about Amanda, she looks very unapproachable and unpersonable. I do think someone else should of went before Joanne.

I also thought Joanne deserved to stick around for a couple of more weeks. I was really surprised she went.

I think Simon gave Colton such a hard time, because Simon did not want to push him through to the top 24. He wanted Kyle to go through. So, he is probably saying, see, I told you he wouldn't last and is aggravated that Kyle wasn't given the chance, who he thought was more deserving.

It's interesting you say that, I noticed the other night that the top 24 aren't very touchy-feely with each other. Maybe we'll see more of it when we get down to the top 12. I remember last year it boardered on ridiculous - they would huddle together in huge group hugs and be crying all over each other.

I don't care who wins it this year, as long as that nurse with the horrible voice doesn't.

I noticed that too. This is a completely different group of people than they've had from the beginning. It's usually cutesy pop singers who really are right off the farm. They take it all in and make friends and savor the experience. This season they're more professional and they don't care about the experience and they're not there to make friends - most of them have experienced more than this already. They're there to win or at least just get the exposure they need.

Jason C looks good with the hair pulled back

AMEN to that!!! :thumbsup2

I also thought it was mean that Simon basically told him that he shouldn't think of singing as a career because he wasn't good enough...then why'd he let him through in the first place?!

He didn't want Colton through...When they were picking the top 24, it was down to Colton and Kyle (the one with the glasses) and Simon said outright, he'd chosen to put Kyle through, but was outvoted by Randy and Paula...So he really never thought Colton was that great I guess :confused3

Did anyone else think the axing of Garrett was so abrupt? It borded on rude.

Absolutely! Ryan was like, 'Ummmm, Garrett come up here. You're gone. Bye.' :sad2:
They really need to find a better way to tell these people they are eliminated. It isn't so bad when they bring two up, but calling one down and just blurting it out, it's so mean!

A question about when the girls performed, did anyone else notice when Amy sang "Where The Boys Are" that Randy said Patsy Cline had done that song, and Amy didn't have the "country twang" to be able to sing it? Patsy Cline didn't sing that song, it was Connie Francis and she was not country!! :confused3

Randy ALWAYS gets an artist wrong. I think it was last year, he was like, "Gavin's my boy, I'm glad you sung Gavin Degraw." And they were like, "Uh, that wasn't Gavin's song." :lmao: I think it's funny. Makes him look like an ever bigger idiot than he already looks.
I wish he would QUIT sucking air through his teeth! It's getting so annoying, really. They can use him to vaccuum up the stage after each show

As long as Jason C stays, I'm ok with whomever gets the boot. ;)

I just not feeling the love for Amanda on this thread. She's making the show for me! All the rest of the cookie cutter cuties add up to a major snooze fest and I really had enough of that last year.

I love her tough gritty style and my hope is that she'll tone it down just a few times so that people can hear the softer side of her voice.

Hey what can I say. I'm a child of the 60's. The Stones, Janis, James Brown, all of them had passion. This is what I see when I watch Amanda sing.

I'm not a child of the 60's but I am with you on this one. :thumbsup2 I loved Amanda. She was the only person I voted for on Wednesday night.

yeah i noticed that, actually. where's he been?? it's not the same without him!

i don't get all the Amanda hate on this thread, either. what makes her seem so unapprochable? i dunno, she reminds me of Janice, and i loved Janice, so i love this girl. just like i loved Gina last year. maybe it's because they're more my "style" of singers?? i dunno. but trust me, if you think THAT'S screaming, you seriously haven't heard much. go listen to Cannibal Corpse, then come back to me and tell me how horrible you think Amanda is.

I listen to all rock - stuff from the 60s through today - and I just don't like Amanda. I liked her in the beginning but she's a one-trick pony, as has been said before. Some of my favorite rock singers definitely don't have the best technical voices, but they can do different things with their voices and change it up. Plus they have charisma and are entertaining, whereas, to me, Amanda always just seems bored, annoyed and uncomfortable :confused3 It's like she can't believe she has to bop along to a group number on a TV show... like she knows she's sold out but she's there anyway. There's just something weird about the whole thing. I don't hate the girl, but that's personally why I don't like her as much as I did in the beginning. It's the same thing week after week with her growling out song after song. It just gets kind of old. I'm willing to give her another shot, though... if she can do something different and show some versatility I'd be glad to root for her!

I don't think that it's Amanda hate...I think that it's simply that she's seemingly so out-of-place there. It would be one thing if she was out-of-place because of what she sings or the way she sings, but the fact that she totally isn't the "typical" contestant in that there's a lack of emotion when we're used to seeing emotion.

Now, I don't think this is a bad thing. I'm sick of everyone being all lovey-dovey when they've only known each other for two weeks. It just makes her stick out when she stands up there with everyone else.

If I'm being honest, I feel sorry for Amanda, actually. I think that she kinda forgot that there were group-sings and this "image" that is the American Idol when she signed up for the thing.

I like Amanda...but I do worry that she's a one-trick pony. Like someone else said, I think she needs to sing something like "The Rose" to show that she's got something else up her sleeve. There'd still be grit to that song, but it would definitely show a different side.

I like Amanda too..not as much as Gina Glockson, but I like her. The only thing is she reminds me ever so slightly of Kat Von Dee from LA Ink and her I can't stand.

I do think Amanda has to show some more range though. Even Janice didn't growl through every song. Amanda won't be around long if she doesn't show some versatility soon.
