The 2008 American Idol Thread.....

That was by far the grossest thing in Idol. I think the meth story, she would rather come out with it then the tabloids get ahold of it and twist it around.

I wish Idol was tonight also. Didn't it use to be three days a week for a while with the auditions or am I day dreaming?

Interesting article here....it seems like Idol may be stacking the deck with some "professional" singers that have had prior record / tv deals.

Like I said before...1) I wouldn't take anything printed by VFTW as accurate without another source to back it up....and 2) I actually hope it's accurate, as that likely means that the finalists will at least be able to sing this year, as opposed to last.

Besides...this isn't new, folks...Bo Bice had a record...So did Taylor Hicks...So did Constantine (for some unknown reason)...MOST of the top-level contestants made their living in a band, or in some way were singing in public before hitting the Idol stage. The only stipulation for the show is that they not be signed to a current recording deal. That's all it's ever been.

Definitely right on that. Reveal it yourself and take away any of TMZ/VFTW/gossip rags' thunder. She was smart - told the producers upfront about her past issues. They only get ticked-off if contestants try to hide stuff.

agnes!

It's great to see folks from last Seasons AI thread posting here. Has Robinrs posted yet this year? Thanks mandy for the leaked Top 50, going off to check that out right now.

agnes!

Ya'll are welcome. I almost want to say I know two of the ones from Nashville but it's hard to tell right now.One of my friends, friends however did make the Top 50.

A few thoughts about last night:

- Druggie girl can sing, and assuming her story was honest, I don't know how anyone can criticize her for getting her life back together. I hope she does well, for her sake as well as her kids. Anyone than can kick meth has what it takes to make a life for themselves.

:thumbsup2 I don't see why her story is unbelievable? There are people out there that had a drug problem, kicked it and then went on to live happy productive lives.

I noticed last nite too that Simon is being way nice! The country guy is a total cutie. He should be in Nashville though. I think there is a bit too much twang in his voice for AI. I usually hate these audition rounds but this year I'm enjoying them

Also agree about the car wreck girl. :confused3 Not sure at all why she was put thru. How many more weeks of auditions before the Hollywood round? I really like Hollywood week.

Two more weeks of auditions then Hollywood week is around the first week of February. I posted a schedule earlier somewhere in this thread.

A local radio station played "I am Your Brother" this morning when I was heading back from dropping dd off at school. I almost had to pull over. I couldn't get the image of Randy and Paula dancing (and Simon laughing) out of my head.

Oh My God, they didn't!! :rotfl2:

Thanks for those links, very interesting! I'm not sure if I'm ticked off that they are trying to pas singers that AI has had association with in the past as 'new talent', or relieved that these people will have some small measure of talent this season. At least now I know which ones are the ones that TPTB want in there though.

And, I missed the fingernail guy!! I had read this thread and you guys talking about him, before AI started last night, and wanted to see that part. I put DD to bed, and when I came back down, I just missed it! I asked DH if I missed the fingernail guy, and he said he was a freak. Darn it!

I truly don't care who they stack the deck with as long as the people I'm expected to spend an hour or two a night watching (and voting for) can SING!

WHAT???????? NEVER Kissed a Girl???? What rock has he been hiding under, with his Dad?:confused3

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: That cracked me up, especially the dad part! I thought his whole story was... disturbing. If you're saving yourself for marriage then that's great, good for you. But I hate when people use something like that as a way of describing themselves. Is that REALLY what makes you who you are? And isn't not kissing a little extreme? I can see saving yourself, but sometimes you can have an amazing time with someone and a strong connection, but there's nothing there in the kiss. So saving that for your "I Do's" could be screwing yourself over really good :rotfl: But I didn't find any of that disturbing, it was the whole necklace thing. If you want to wear a necklace as a promise to yourself, then again, that's great. But the fact that his dad was wearing "the key to his heart," and that his dad wore a symbol of his virginity... that just skeeved me out completely! His dad can be proud of him without outwardly wearing a symbol of his son's sex life. That's just WAY too much :rotfl2: Ugh.

Sorry, that just struck me as really weird. These people put themselves on reality TV so I have every right to judge them. ;)

And Meth girl... I don't have anything against her. Meth addictions are strange because it's always the spoiled, rich, "good" kids who end up addicted. It's like the "Desperate Housewives" drug that's often taken by the people who you'd least expect. She went through some tough times and allowing herself to get addicted in the first place was obviously a stupid idea, but she got her life together and has moved on. I don't see what's so scandalous :confused3

I'm only halfway through the show so I'm sure I'll have more to say soon :lmao:

I thought it was too much too. Saving yourself for marriage if that's what you want, great. But a little kissing (or more) is not going to hurt you, or ruin yourself. Finding someone that you love, and are sexually compatible with is important. You need to experiment a bit to see what you want, you know? Personally, I'd want someone who knew what they were doing. :rolleyes1

And that the dad was wearing the heart was freaky, IMO. The way was way too involved in that, it's a personal decision for the son. Makes me wonder how much of it was really all about pressure from the dad. And, I'd NEVER go on TV and tell everyone how big of a part of me that is. :scared:

The music they had playing when he put the key in the heart the dad was wearing had me cracking up. :rotfl2:

I agree... it was the Dad thing. I would hate to be the girl that he falls in love with and be forced to wear a necklace that has been around the Dad's neck for years :scared: . Although, I think Randy's comment was not right either about go kiss a girl when he asked for advice.

Heck yeah! :scared: I could see if he was saving the necklace on his own to give to his wife on his wedding day or something, but the DAD wearing it? :sad2: That's just a tad too creepy for me.

And announcing that on TV... geez mister, find something else interesting about yourself. That was too much like the "No Sex Allowed" dude.

:lmao: Can you imagine?! I thought the same thing as you. If you wear a necklace or a ring or just something as a promise to yourself, that's great. Even if you gave the necklace or ring or whatever to your future wife, I actually think that's pretty cute. But the fact that his dad also wore a symbol of his promise (I can't get over the fact that it was the "key to his heart" :lmao:) made it seem like this was all his dad's doing, and I'm all for parents knowing what they're kids are up to, but that's a TIGHT leash. And a disturbing one :rotfl2: Brandon was cute and seemed like a good kid so the whole thing was just really... odd, and I can't see many girls out there wanting to wear a necklace that his dad's worn for years as a symbol of his son's sex life :lmao: Oh man, American Idol finds all the interesting people!

And I finally got up to the "nails" kid. What was that?! :lmao: That's OCD to the extreme! It was weird, but I actually really liked his voice.
