The 2008 American Idol Thread.....

My DH is a huge IU fan since that is where he went to school. He just finished watching IU beat Minnesota. Of course I watched American Idol while he was watching basketball.

It was a good game. He is actually dating my Niece. Who he recognized during his farewell speech after the game it was too neat. We went and saw the Purdue game. Sampson's last game. We actually stayed with DJ in Lance Stemlers room. the atmosphere was amazing. I have been to alot of Clemson basketball games but nothing compares to a game at Assembly Hall. Oh my Niece was a softball player on a full ride to IU we went and saw her play at Kentucky last year. She hit 2 homers. Amazing....

Asia'h- I like her but I thought tonight wasn't good. Probably because I compared her to Whitney in my mind. My DD loved her though.

Kady-She is really bland, I didn't enjoy her performance. Zzzzzzz

Amanda- Not a fan.

Carly- Bad song choice but she has a good a voice.

Kristy-Didn't work for me.

Ramiele- Bad song choice for her, she was OK.

Brooke- My favorite girl, she has a cool voice and she's unique. Great job tonight.:thumbsup2

Syesha- I think she has the best "big voice". The most "Whitney like" that's ever been on AI. I like her. :thumbsup2

Robin and Tammie – sorry I wasn’t here tonight for you to copy off of…

Week Three – The Gals – Wrap-Up

Once again, corny 80s music could be a disaster…Overall, I think half were good, half left a little to be desired.

Asia’h Epperson – I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Definitely my favorite Asia’h performance, but I’m still not a fan of her raspy voice. Nevertheless, I thought it was fun and, unlike Simon, I do think she hit the notes at the end.

Kady Malloy – Who Wants to Live Forever – Based solely on looks, I’m a Kady fan, but I’m honestly not gonna miss her voice when she’s gone tomorrow. I thought it was a weak performance. I agree with a poster who said she was “all smiles” tonight.

Amanda Overmyer – I Hate Myself for Loving You – Definitely her best performance yet. I actually liked it quite a bit and she actually seemed like she wanted to be there tonight when she performed. Still, I can’t help but think that she’s just a karaoke-level talent.

Carly Smithson – I Drove All Night – I think I’m officially a Carly fan now. She’s got quite a set of pipes. Two weeks in a row she’s been very impressive. I thought that the song definitely showed her range.

Kristy Lee Cook – Faithfully – Poor song choice…I’m all for Journey, but that’s just a boring song. She hasn’t shown any spark since “Amazing Grace.” She’s just boring.

Ramielle Malubay – Against All Odds – Yeah, it may be corny, but I love this song. I thought it started pretty good, but it definitely got weaker at the end. I’m feeling like Ramielle has a tough time belting…she sounds good singing gentler and softer, but she doesn’t impress me when she belts it out.

Brooke White – Love Is a Battlefield – Liked the acoustic version of this song. Brooke isn’t and never will be the best singer in this competition, but I like her and her style of music. I think this was probably the riskiest song of the night.

Syesha Mercado – Saving All My Love for You – Didn’t love it, but I like Syesha even though I don’t think she has a great voice. I thought it was kinda blah, but that song is kinda blah. I just hope that it wasn’t too forgettable and that she goes home.

My Thoughts

The Best

Carly Smithson – I Drove All Night
Brooke White – Love Is a Battlefield

Middle of the Pack

Kady Malloy – Who Wants to Live Forever

The word from DialIdol about last night: Too close to call.

I misseed the first 2 performers last night- darn kids.:rotfl2: So the first one I saw was Amanda - I'll go from there.

Amanda Overmyer – I Hate Myself for Loving You – She needs a hug. When they were talking to her she just looked so sad like she was waiting for them to insult her looks again. I thouht she did a great job and is a great perfomer- she knows how to work the stage.

Carly Smithson – I Drove All Night –WHAT?? I feel like I am in the twilight zone when I am watching her. Did nothing for me at all. And then when Randy went on and on about her I was thinking is he hearing what I am hearing? She has a melodic voice but boy is she boring. Really not a fan.

Kristy Lee Cook – Faithfully – The whole time she was singing my husband was asking who the hell is that? So I guess he hasn't been paying attention. Well and I guess me either because I thought it was Kady with a perm. And in my thinking it was Kady I thought wow she is doing much better this week. But Journey? I loved Journey. And I don't think she did it justice- so as Kady I would have said improvement as Kristy- not so much.

Ramielle Malubay – Against All Odds – I have always really like her. I think she has a great voice. Tonite she seemed off- like she was controlling her voice- and I agree with Randy I kept waiting for her to Belt it out. I forgot how much I liked this song though. Not her best but she is not the worst.

Brooke White – Love Is a Battlefield – I guess this was her showing her dark side? with a smile. It was nice. Just nice

Syesha Mercado – Saving All My Love for You –Oh Whitney, that takes guts or stupidity. I also think she was ok.

Out of what I saw I would say my bottom 2(out of the 6) would have to be Kristy Lee Cook and CARLY. There I said it. I want Carly gone.

I expected to be horrified by the girls last night but instead was pleasantly surprised for several of them.

Asia’h Epperson - I Want To Dance With Somebody. She broke the 11 commandment… thou shalt not do Whitney. No one is as good as Whitney so why bother. On the up side, she wasn’t horrible but when you keep comparing, it just doesn’t work. She got a 6.

Kady Malloy – Who Wants To Live Forever. Sort of a funny title seeing how I believe this performance probably sealed her death on AI. It was just plain boring. Because I’m not familiar with this number, I kept thinking that the next verse or next line would have some passion to it but the zzzzzzzz’s just went on and on. She got a 3 but I’m not sure why I even gave her that.

Amanda Overmyer – Hate Myself For Loving You. Yup, Amanda is BACK! Everything was better tonight; the voice, look, hair and I loved her version of this song. I also love her attitude. It’s refreshing to have a WOMAN who refuses to be just another Barbie Doll. Amanda gets a coveted 10 for taking me out of the generic pit some of these girls put me in.

Carly Smithson – I Drove All Night. I actually liked this but, once again, less screaming would have been better. She’s another one who is looking better every week. Nice number and, WOW, isn’t her Mom beautiful! She, Carly, got an 8.

Kristy Lee Cook – Faithfully. The number started out OK but got a bit screamy towards the end. A pretty good performance but I found her red tongue distracting. Isn’t there a throat spray they can use that doesn’t scream LOOK AT ME!! She got a 6.

Ramiele Malubay – Against All Odds. Another boring performance from this cute little thing. ARG! It seemed like she was having trouble keeping up with the band through most of it. It was about this time that Paula’s drugs kicked in and she went on a major babble. SHUT UP! Nope, didn’t like any of it. She got a 4.

Brooke White – Love Is A Battlefield. I wasn’t sure putting a country spin on this would work but it did splendidly. The whole number was well put together and using just a guitar so we could concentrate on her voice was excellent. Her rating went up a few points in my book and I gave her a 9.

Syesha Mercado – Saving All My Love For You. Oh no! Not Whitney again! But surprise, surprise… I actually loved her rendition. It was pretty much a carbon copy of the original or I would have scored her higher. Great vocals and nice to watch, she gets an 8.

Who I voted for:
Amanda
Carly
Brooke
Syesha

Who I want to go home:
Kady
Ramiele

Who I think will go home:
Kady
??

As always… JMHO! :teeth:

I'm honestly bored with Amanda. I have seen no diversity from her.

I know a lot of people are saying this about Amanda but honestly, name one person on the show this year that HAS shown any diversity? They try but they still end up sounding the same. I think it is just that Amanda is so distinctive in what she does. I think she does the rock stuff very well. She isn't going to be a love song artist but then Kady, Brooke, Asia'h, Ramilie, etc. are never going to be rock singers either. The only one that I think that can do it all is possibly Carley. I think she has the most talent and I thought that Simon's comment about her be SO much better then the songs she has picked is right on. It will be interesting to see her now that they get professional support for their songs.

There is something about Brooke that I don't like but I can't pinpoint it. She just seems plain...her voice doesn't interest me.

I agree-she is forgettable like Simon says. She does nothing to make herself stand out in a crowd. I was flabbergasted when I found out she was a hairstylist because she has the most awful hair. DO something with it already. That would help tremendously.

Kady, you've got talent, you just don't know how to use it yet. Come back in 5 years and you will be a finalist. Simon wants to like her but she just keeps disappointing him.

Asia'h--honey, you sound just like Whitney and that is your problem. I don't think she understands that the judges don't want to hear an imitation of the song. She has added nothing to the songs she has done. They are all imitations of the original artists. I also don't think her voice would stand up to a professional career. She would be done in a year at the most.

I think Kady and Asia'h are going home.

I want Brooke to go home. I don't like her.

I LOVE Amanda. I don't know why, but I do.

I want Kady to go home. I am tired of her attitude week in and week out. She has a good voice, but has not done one good song.

My second choice would be Kristy Lee Cook. I am not a big country fan, but I do think she can sing. I just think she is so boring.

Just *my* opinion.

I wish they would ban Whitney, Celine, and Mariah songs. If you've watched AI over the years, you've heard more than your share of them.

Time for a new female judge:eek:...preferably one who can sit in her seat for 5 minutes and says things that make sense.

I don't even care which girl goes home tonight.

I love Brooke. She is by far my favorite girl. I hope Ramiele makes it through too.

Amanda wasn't as annoying as I normally think she is but I still don't like her style at all. And I'm not really a fan of Carly either...she's got a good voice but I don't know... :confused3

All I can say RyMickey is it's ABOUT TIME...

Week Three – The Gals – My UnaBASHedly RIPOFF RYMICKEY Wrap-Up

Asia’h Epperson – I Wanna Dance With Somebody – Nervy move to do Whitney since Simon refuses to give anyone a break on her songs.... come ON, she's good but she's NOT Streisand!! Her voice is NOT BUTTAH!! Asia'h did fine and she looked so good... omg :scared1: I've morphed into Paula!!!

Kady Malloy – Who Wants to Live Forever – Kady actually has the best voice, to me, of the IBWs, but her attitude has been a major turn off. She obviously got TALKED TO this week because she put on her best act... didn't fool me! Song was unrecognizable and sad. :sad1:

Amanda Overmyer – I Hate Myself for Loving You – I like Amanda, mainly because she looks like she is SO NOT enjoying her time at AI! :lmao: Imagine! She's living with 3 barbie dolls, 2 Whitney wannabes, a pimped Irish plant and a geisha girl gangsta!! She probably wants to BOLT!!

The song was the best she's done yet but still has not broken out of her mold..
rockon.gif

Carly Smithson – I Drove All Night – I kind of LIKED Carly last night. She looked softer and she sang beautifully. Right before this performance I was thinking "who is VOTING for this girl"??? :confused3 Randy needs to shut up his fake endorsements, though. It's so obvious... :furious:

Kristy Lee Cook – Faithfully – Farmbot revisited. Only LESS animated, if that's possible. UGH to the country version of one of my favorite song. Sounded like she was yodeling.

Ramielle Malubay – Against All Odds – Also one of my fave songs, wonder what her story was??? Bet it's a doozy!:cool2: Boring rendition, she's a great singer but she seemed so docile tonight.

Brooke White – Love Is a Battlefield – boooooooooring....
sleep.gif

Syesha Mercado – Saving All My Love for You – That was a karaoke routine if I ever heard one. She is a good singer but she added NOTHING to the Heck to the Nah girl's rendition. :confused3

My Thoughts

Kady --- it's TIME!
Syesha, because she probably doesn't have the fanbase.

Time for a new female judge:eek:...preferably one who can sit in her seat for 5 minutes and says things that make sense.
You know, Paula has never really bothered me until this season. She makes no sense when she talks. She just keeps rambling. All I hear is blah, blah, blah when she's talking..................

"you are a light in a dark room", "you are a budding flower", "you bring sunshine to the stage", "your voice is smooth & colorful".................UGH!!!

Amanda wasn't as annoying as I normally think she is but I still don't like her style at all. And I'm not really a fan of Carly either...she's got a good voice but I don't know... :confused3
I'm not a huge Amanda fan nor am I a Carly fan for some reason. I also think she has a great voice, but she just doesn't do it for me.

Some more thoughts on the contestants:

Kady--Simon has told her the same thing over and over again and she just can't pull it off. She needed to so some peppy, upbeat, Michael Jacksonish song this week to show off her amazing voice and just didn't.

Amanda--she isn't a cheerleader. She doesn't buy into the fake, flamboyant, jump up and down image that a lot of the women (and some of the men) get into. I think she truly listens to the judges and tries to take everything in. I think she wants to do well. I laughed when Simon told her she could smile. A little more emotion would be good but I think she is just a shy person at heart. If you remember Jordin Sparks, she was pretty reserved as well.

I just think that most of the contestants are too karaoke. They just aren't listening when Simon tells them to take a song and make it your own. David A is a great example of that. NONE of the songs he has sung have sounded like the original--THAT is what Simon wants people to do. Look at how well he liked Brooke. She took a punk rock song and made it country. Brooke in the 70's would have been a superstar with that voice and the girl next door looks. She just isn't it in 2008. I think she could have a moderately successful recording career on the country side though.

I think if you watch the contestants when they are getting their reviews--they are pleased with what Randy and Paula say then they all turn to Simon, take a deep breath and wait. The KNOW that he is honest and that what he tells them is what they need. The smart ones listen and try to do as he says. The other's are going home. I have yet to disagree with anything Simon has said about any of the contestants so far this year.

I'm a Brooke fan, so I hope she stays. Otherwise, I don't really care. But I'd love to see Cady and Kristy gone....BOOOOORING!

Just *my* opinion.

I wish they would ban Whitney, Celine, and Mariah songs. If you've watched AI over the years, you've heard more than your share of them.

Time for a new female judge:eek:...preferably one who can sit in her seat for 5 minutes and says things that make sense.

I completely agree w/ all of this! I'm tired of hearing those songs and then the judges mentioning how they have some nerve to sing it. You'd think the contestants would get a clue already!!!

And I swear, Paula acts like she's on crack! They need to have a trap door under her chair and just let her fall through it. She rambles on and on and on...:scared:

Last night it seemed to me that she repeated everything Randy said in different words.
