The 1980's.... that fashion is becoming popular again, it seems.

We called them Docksiders.

I was preppy in the 80's. I wore my shirttails hanging down below my oversized sweaters. And I loved to wear a loose, thin men's tie with my open-ncked oxford buttondowns. I loved that look!

Anyone remember surfer jams - those big baggy surfer shorts?

OMG I forgot how much I loved wearing a tie with my oxford shirts and skirts to work. I had just turned 21 gotten a great job and couldn't tie a tie to save my soul. I used to get in early and go see the older gents in purchasing and have them tie it for me!:rotfl2:

Class of 90 here as well.

Remember the colourful, pastel coulored pants from the mid-eighties. I had some that had stripes in all different pastel colours and they were tapered too!

I also had a set of 4 shirts and sweatshirts that I could combine as follows:

Shirts:
1. White
2. Pink
3. Sea foam Green
4. Yellow

Sweatshirts:
1. White
2. Pink
3. Sea foam Green
4. Yellow

The kicker...never the same colour shirt as the sweatshirt you wore...so it was like seafoam shirt, and the pink sweatshirt together...Yellow sweatshirt with the pink blouse etc etc and I had matching LACE that I would wear in my hair to hold it back like a headband tied in a bow.

Couple this look with skin tight jeans and small loafers or small white canvas shoes...I was styling.

I just hope NEON does not make a comeback...yes I had those too.

Lately I've been seeing the big gold chains and chunk earrings these teenagers are wearing. I wonder if they got it from their parents.

Someone mentioned the slouch socks... I loved these. I remember wearing those with leggings and depending on the outfit you have on, one sock would be one color and the other sock would be the other color. Or, you would wear both colors but switch them on both legs (ex. red and blue for one leg and blue and red for the other)

I am loving the 80's fashions. Class of 90 here. I went shopping at JCPenny yesteday and most of the clothes were 80's throwbacks with a little updating. I was in awe and spent over $200! I took them all home and DH said, "You already have these in your attic at your moms house!" I am going back there this weekend and grabbing everything I can. I know I still have at least 3-4 pairs of leg wamers there, hopefully I still have my rainbow striped ones!:lmao: I also still have my loafers, jelly shoes and Chuck Taylors. I just knew I would need them again someday!

You know you are getting old when...

Your 18 year old niece calls you up and says, "It's Spirit Week and we're having a Flashback to the 80's Day. So, what did you guys wear back then?"

I was Class of 1984, but didn't graduate until 1985. :rolleyes1

I told her I'd see if I could dig up my LA Gear hightops with the pink & white striped laces, two-toned jeans, and my OP hoodie with "Ocean Pacific" on the sleeves.

I doubt my royal blue and black Sgt Pepper-band-uniform-looking top and skinny black stirrup pants survived.

I was the queen of big hair in the 80s. My hair is very fine and thin and I can remember starting on my hair in the early afternoon on Saturdays: spray, curl, comb out, repeat, repeat, repeat. Around 9:00 or 10:00 at night it was finally sufficiently huge for me to venture out to the clubs. Here are some big hair pictures from the 80s although these are fairly tame for me:

Your hair in these pics looks more 70's than 80's to me. The first pic reminds me of Farrah Fawcett - very striking. :thumbsup2

I know, I don't know what the deal was with my hair in that pic - it was usually 'bigger' on top. I think I must've been due for a haircut because that was actually pretty tame for me. I'll have to try to dig up some more. This has been fun going through these old albums, it's really bringing back the memories! :)

From 1985, a casual shot on my birthday:

You will note the big hair, heavy eyeliner, and if I'm not mistaken, Stevie Nicks concert tshirt.

From 1986, one of my many OP shirts:

You will note the "off the shoulder" sexy style.

From 1987, all dressed up for a bridal luncheon:

You will note the coordinating stripes, shoes & belt.

And let's throw in one more from 1985 at Epcot:

Does anyone remember not tieing their tennis shoes, but tucking the laces inside? I do and that's back as well. Took the kids to the Homecoming football game last night and that's all I saw.

The Candies shoe line was originally from the 80's as well. It has made a huge comeback. I remember wearing the white tennis shoes with the fake shoelace around the top (not explaining quite right).

I remember Candies in the 70's...the older girls at christian school wore them and I soooo wanted to wear them too.

My 16 yr old learned the heating up the eyeliner trick from me :thumbsup2 and she wears a ton of it. My daughter is the blonde.

Now I have naturally big hair so I am excited to hear that big hair is coming back :cool1:

Every time something old comes back I swear I'll never wear it! A few years ago I said I would NEVER wear skinny jeans because they would make my legs look short. Now I have 3 pairs. :scared1: I just bought a pair of purple suede ankle boots too. In my defense, I wore them as flats in the 80s but the new ones have 3 or 4 inch heels so they're not exactly the same. Now I'm seeing a lot of very high waisted jeans. I'm hoping those will go away but if not, at least they suck everything in. :rotfl:

That is some AWESOME hair. It does look transitional, early 80s, maybe, but still, incredible.

And you had fine hair? Amazing! I had, and still have, thick curly hair, and coudln't do much with it until Madonna showed up, but never thought I could just work work and work some more at it until it behaved! Oh the feathering I could have experienced if only I'd worked harder.

Of course, it would be easier NOW b/c of all the hair products, but back then, what...hairspray and mousse, right? :confused3

I watched Desperately Seeking Susan the other night as well. I still love Madonna's hair, well, her whole style. And I've never really strayed from the same haircut I found after Top Gun came out (I took the soundtrack album to Supercuts and told them to cut it like Kelly McGillis' hair, and that's pretty much what I still have, only the length has varied over the years), which is pretty much what Madonna had (again, varying lengths) during that time.

Back then I couldn't find leggings that naturally went to the ankles, I had to find thick tights and carefully cut off the feet (still have my fave mustard color ones, but I don't wear them). I'm so jealous if they are making them so you don't have to cut anything now! :)

For the guy (?) who started this thread, a picture. :) Please note I am a teenager in this pic.

If that doesn't work, well, I'm not sure what to do, b/c the image isn't on this computer so switching it to a different site won't be easy!

By the way, I still have those earrings. And all the earrings from those times. I got my haircut last month at a place up in Seattle, and they had a whole "boutique" up front, and most of the earrings they were selling looked exactly what is in my earring box. I could make a fortune on eBay right now!

I LOVE THE 80'S!!

I always liked stirup pants and shoulder pads. And big hair! I was wondering if they still sell hot rollers?

Of course, in the 80's I weighed much less, had no kids and plenty of time to do my hair and makeup and all that stuff. Now I'm lucky if my hair gets brushed before I leave the house and makeup is put on at stoplights in the car!

I had shoulder pads that came in a container, for the clothes that didn't come equipped with shoulder pads.

Has anyone seen a leather jacket with fringe? I had one with the boots and skirt that matched. It was a set. Good Lord did I love that outfit.

I actually miss banana clips, they were one of the few things that would stay in my hair, which is baby fine. I still have my hair scrunchies from the 80's too, maybe I wasn't so silly to keep them. I liked a lot of the jeans from the 80's too, the fit of them was more flattering on me than a lot of the current jeans, and I didn't have to wonder if my underwear was gonna stick out if I bent over. :scared1:

I can do without the shoulder pads though, I hate those things!
