The Cast- Myself, turned 32 on the trip, DH 35, Cam 7, Colt almost 4. We've been to WDW quite a few times, but this was our first Christmas trip. My main concern was to take in the holiday events, but in the end we got a lot more done than we had planned.
Monday 12/29
Well this was it, our departure day.
Getting up was really tough this morning. The only thing that got me out of bed was knowing there was Tonga Toast calling my name at the Kona Café. We had 8:00am PS and arrived just on time. Cam still didnt seem like himself but he kept saying he was ok (he can be stubborn). After breakfast we went back to the room to finish packing up. We called Bell Services and they took our luggage and stored it until we were ready to leave. Tiffany Town Car was picking us up at 3:30.
Today the kids had originally wanted to go back to MGM to see Indiana Jones again. But now since Cam wasnt feeling well I didnt think we should be out too much. We decided to go back to MK since it was closer and we could get back to the hotel quicker if he really got sick. In retrospect that wouldnt have done us any good since we didnt have a room to go to anyway, but at the time it seemed reasonable. I blame my thinking on vacation brain.
The monorail station was very busy today so we had to wait for the 2nd train to arrive. We arrived at MK around 11:00 and it was crowded!
This was the crowd I expected for Christmas week. From what our TTC driver later told us and what Ive heard on the boards, the MK did end up going to stage 2 in closing this day and I can see why. Even walking through the walkways was a difficult task, and at times we had to stop and just wait to move again.
When we got to Buzz there was an 80 minute wait so we got FPs that were for 12:45-1:45. We then rode TTA before heading to Frontierland. In planning this trip I had thought one thing that might be nice to try if we had some extra time was Tom Sawyers Island. I hadnt really made it a priority to go there so I sort of forgot about it, but DH suggested we try it out. We had never been, and up until recently, DH always thought it was just a raft ride.
We made it over there, surprisingly with not much of a wait for a raft. By now Cam was feeling better again and he was excited to go here. Both kids really enjoyed it. They love anything where they can just run around and explore. Cam was just recently asking me if when we go back to Disney World, can he go to TSI. I guess it made an impression.
After our adventure there it was about 12:30. Knowing how tough it was to walk across the park through the crowds we decided to take the train from the Adventurland stop to the Toon Town stop and walk from there. We got to Buzz right at our FP time and rode that. If you have been following my reports, Ill give you 1 guess what we had to do next .
Yep, TTA one last time.
Since we had had a big breakfast (well, DH & I did at least) we didnt really want lunch, but knew it might be a while before dinner so, when in doubt, go for ice cream.
The kids and I were able to grab a table at the lower level outside the Plaza, while DH went to get our snack at the Main St Parlor. I couldnt believe how many empty tables there were considering how crowded the park was, and that it was just about time for the parade. We actually had a partially obstructed view of the parade from here, which was a perfect way to end our trip.
We then made it back to the Poly and just sat in the lobby for a while. The kids watched cartoons, colored, and made leis which kept them busy. About 3:10 DH went to find our luggage when he saw our driver already outside waiting. We packed up the car, with a lot more than we came with, and headed to the airport.
Check in was a breeze here and then we had to carry our luggage over to the security areas. The man who took it made sure it wasnt locked (we had those plastic lock things that can be cut off) and he also asked if we had any film in there. We were all set to go through security now. There was no line here, but it was really rushed. Between trying to take off my jacket & shoes, hold on to my id(they wanted it right here) and tell the kids what they had to do, it got confusing. And even though there wasnt much of a line, it was as if we were being rushed through here.
All that was left to do now was to sit and wait to board the plane. Our flight was at 6:00 and we started boarding around 5:30. We started pulling away a little early but then they announced they got a call that there was more luggage coming so we had to stop. In the end we took off just about on time and arrived in Boston early. This time we had 1 of the planes that already has the tvs installed. This was a nice bonus, especially since they offer Cartoon Network and it was time for Scooby Doo. This really occupied the kids. Cam fell asleep(and slept for the better part of the next 2 days), and Colt was happy coloring and watching tv. Before we knew it, we were home emptying stocking from Santa.
Overall this was a wonderful trip. We did a lot, had great weather(not a drop of rain), ate some delicious meals, and really had a lot of fun. I enjoyed all the holiday decorations and activities, however I wouldnt want to go for Christmas every year. We would do it again, but not for at least a few more years. Part of me did feel like we missed out on Christmas, but a part of me feels like we had a "different kind" of Christmas, which is exactly what we did. I hope these reports have helped some of you in planning. Any questions, just ask!
