Thats why I HATE WDW resort pools!!!

I didn't notice the water being warm in the one time I've ever gone into a resort pool. Granted, I paddled in the zero entry bit but still.

Wow. I thought this was a place people could talk about the good and not-so-good of WDW. I apologize for saying I "hate" the pools, didn't mean to hurt anyone's magic feelings. Members here discuss everything from what color socks to wear at WDW to should someone have ketchup on a hot dog or not, but leave it to me to touch a nerve about my dislike of the pool temp. I'll be sure to keep my comments to positive things only from now on.
There's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion. You just can't expect everyone to agree with you. For every person who thinks the pools are too warm, there are going to be an equal number of people who think they aren't warm enough.

BTW, I prefer mustard and relish on my hots dogs.

I normally don't comment on posts like this but I think it was the attitude.

"We have stayed at a couple different WDW resorts the past couple of summer and I hate the pools. Reason being is the water is so warm that it feels like swimming in bath water, not to mention its perfect temp to breed all types of organisms. Well, we are staying at POR this Aug and I found this statement on the portorleans.org website reference pools; "Pool Temperature: 82 degrees (standard at all Walt Disney World Resorts)". Are you kidding me?!?!? WDW keeps all their pools at 82 degrees??? It's 100 degrees outside everyday, why do they need to keep the pools at 82 degrees? I want nice cool water, not warm. Anyway, I'm off my soapbox. Peace.

It might have been better to phrase it something like -

"I think Disney World keeps their pools way too warm when it's so hot outside. I read the temps are at 82 degrees and that seems high to me during the summer. I prefer my pools much cooler. Does anyone agree?"

Then you would have gotten a much more level response.

Disney really does not have to heat the pools during the summer, and POR is one of our more favorite pools because it is not totally in the sun and we found it a bit cooler then say the pool at CSR which has no shade. I wish they could control it at 82 in the summer, but just a couple days in Florida's 90 degree weather will raise the pool temp up to 90 in no time.

We go every August and never felt the pools were too warm

Ditto. We go every August when it's scorchingly hot outside and the pools feel cool by comparison - we've stayed at CSR, WL, POR, POFQ and Poly. We've never felt they were too warm. I guess it's just subjective. For each person that feels they're too warm, there's another who thinks they're too cold. Sorry you think they're too warm OP!

We live in IN and even here, when the air temp stays at 90 for multiple days, the pool feels like bath water. I'm sure Disney doesn't heat the pools in the summer. I wouldn't expect them to feel refreshing when the air temps are 90+ and humidity is unbearable. When we've been in September and October, the pools have been just perfect (well the Springs pool at SSR was a little chilly).

I'm looking forward to the heated pools. All my previous experiences have been in holiday resorts were the pools aren't heated at all and you have to slowly edge yourself in haha. :rotfl:

As we're going in early March I'm sure we'll really appreciate the pool heating, especially if we go for an evening swim! :)

I would think pretty much all of the pools everywhere in florida would get pretty warm on their own in the summer time :confused3
They've never been too warm for my liking.

Dog days of summer in AUG at AKL and the pool was refreshing in the middle of the day!!

The water being filtered in ( maybe replaced) if you find the vents is cold.

I thought the pool at WL was very refreshing in the middle of July last year. To each his own...:goodvibes

I like the pool warm even during summer. I want to be able to jump in the pool without testing the water first, if it's cold. I guess you can say, I like my water about 86 or higher.

We went during a record breaking heat spell in June of 2009. Did a split stay and at All Star Music the pool was actually too warm. For sure it helped cool you off but it was not refreshing. The quiet pool was the same. One day dd and I walked over to the main pool at Movies and it was perfect!

Our second leg of the trip was OKW and it was also refreshing and just right.

So I do agree a pool can be too warm in the hot summer but after several summer trips, only that ASMU experience comes to mind.

As we know the human body is generally around 98.6-95 degree F. When water temperatures falls below 80 degrees F you start to expose individuals to possible hypothermia risk. The lower the temperature generally increases this risk. Maybe this is why Disney states the water temperature. Just like the lakes in Florida, the shallow end of pools will heat up easily during Summer months in Florida by early afternoon. Head to deeper waters if you desire cooler water...

Most of you must have never owned a pool. I was thrilled to see my pool hit 85 today after the unseasonably cool weather! I had friends come swim and upon entering they sucked in their breath because it felt too cold! You see it is all relative. With the heat index being 100 and my friend was already toasty it felt cold...what the OP is probably complaining about is not the 82 degree but the fact Disney can not Maintain 82 degrees in the hot temps down there..with a week in the 90s-100s..our pool temp has reached 98 degrees! That is toasty! But we have 55 degree well water we can run into our pool that will bring it back to the 80s...Disney may not be able to effect much temp lowering with the sheer volume of water, for 33,000 gallons...it is not too hard, but trying to cool pools no deeper than 5 feet with a volume 10x that...not easy!!

Sorry, I call BS. You can't post on a discussion board and expect no response. Did you just expect everyone else to say "yes you're totally right...all the pools in Orlando are way too warm." Obviously if everyone felt this way, Disney would have lowered the temperature.

Furthermore, the record high temperature for Orlando in the summer is roughly 100°. The average temperature is around 90° to 91°. This may not seem like a huge difference, but because of where Florida lies in in terms of it's latitude, to reach 100° is very, very rare because of the moisture in the air.

So actually if the average high temperature is 90°, and the average pool temperature is 82°, I think that's actually pretty cool. But sorry if I was the next person to burst your bubble where you thought you would make a "Here's what I hate about Disney World" post and expect only affirmative responses.

As a Floridian I've found the temps in the resort pools really cold for the past few years. My DH hasn't gone in until this past weekend, we were at Jambo house and that water was COLD to us. We inched our way in from the zeroo entry point, and We tried to stay in it but the rainy weather and clouds have kept pool temps lower. The DVC pool at VWL was comfortable and I enjoyed walking in and not freezing. Usually Saratgoa Springs pool is warmer than any other pool we've gone in.

Pools need to be kept at a comfortable temperature for adults, because kids don't care about the temps.

One of the things on these boards that really gets my goat is the attitude of people. There is so much 'well, if you had said it this way, you would have gotten better responses' that it makes it hard to post. Everyone is so quick to judge!! Man, chill out a bit guys. People are so quick to jump on someone for the way they 'put' something. Some of the responses here are almost worse than the original post!!
Okay, having said that....
I have been to WDW in the middle of a heat wave, in August. Believe me, it was surface of the sun hot!!! And it never rained....go figure. Our pool was not even close to refreshing. It was very close to body temp!!! You really did have to stay in the hot tub for a bit and then jump in the pool to feel any coolness!!
Dd and I were at AoA earlier this month. When you stuck your foot in the pool, it felt cool. But, after 10 mins in the pool? You could barely tell you were in the water. BUT...after an hour in the pool? Started getting chilled. That warm water was really leaching the body heat right out of me!!! I was actually shivering at one point.
But in the summer months, Disney doesn't have to heat the pools....the sun does an overly good job of that. It actually makes it almost not worth it to swim. Hardly refreshing at all. But earlier this month it was terrific!!
I know that when my step-mom is at her Florida condo, right on the Atlantic, she asks the pool people if they will raise the temp of the water to at least 85. She has some severe back issues and if the water is cooler than that, she can't swim. But the warmer water makes her back so much better. Not to mention the other residents then thank her for getting it done.

We too have had our own pool, and there was nothing we could do to keep it cool here in the south. Our solution was to swim at night, it was a little more refreshing then.

If you want a cooler temp pool, stay at the Swan/Dolphin! The Grotto pool is very cool! Very refreshing in the summer!:beach:
