That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

"There's No crying in Disney World"
I'd never heard that before! Haha, I have to start telling my kids that.

Well, DS might need a postcard from Mickey saying how much he misses him already...

He would go nuts!

And I'm sure the Cap'n will be missing TK. ;)

You have NO idea.;) ;)

Might be a couple more days on this. I just so happened to receive the most *perfect* accessories for said binder...and trip journal...from a recently found long, lost relative. There is some addition decorumating to be done.

coughcoughyou'rewelcomecoughcough

Out. Of. My. Head. LOL

Seriously, what were you thinking?:rotfl2:

Actually, I'm only an 8 in Crocs and flippies that don't come in half sizes. Otherwise I'm an 8 1/2 or a 9.

I see, oh wise one. I hover between an 8/8.5, so it's tough when they don't make half sizes.

Fifteen shades of DED.

I'm glad you all enjoyed my Hamlet inspired ode. Unlike Hamlet, however, I will not be lamenting the loss of my friend whilst carrying about his skull, or driving my girlfriend mad with my behavior.:thumbsup2 Especially since I don't have a girlfriend. Nor have I ever known anyone named Yorick.

I think it's a variable cycle. Until about 3 you can get an upwards of 78%!!! Then from 3 until they are teens begging for:
a.) money
b.) the car keys or
c.) a later curfew
it hovers in the 20-40% range.
Back down again through the 20's with a slow and steady increase to somewhere in the 50% range through the 30's, 40's and 50's. Of course, situational variations can occur. Hence this:

I can't say that I originally came up with that. I've heard it in a lot of places. But it doesn't make me love it less!!!

He would go nuts!

Consider it done.

:goodvibes

Nor have I ever known anyone named Yorick.

Perhaps I should put that one on the list in case the BF and I have kids.
...

...

No?

Ok, so strike another thing off the 'Disney To-Do' list. Specifically, this one:

5. Determine which bag I will be using as a carry-on and if no such bag is located or deemed "worthy" of carry-on status, purchase new carry-on bag.

Now, I'm sure there are some men (and shopping-gene-lacking women) out there who are getting all, "ACHK! She's talking about accessories again?!"

And to you I say, "Yes. Again."

Actually, getting this one right was kind of important to me. I like feeling organized and I like travel to be easy. Otherwise the little stress-bunny in my head gets all sorts of spastic. And yes, I said stress-bunny. It helps keep the hissy-fitting to a minimum to think that the thing in my head that causes me to get all anxious and panicky and sweaty looks like this:
baby_bunny.jpg

SO, in order to minimize my interaction with the TSA and other local authorities, I made myself a list (again, dedicated to our LL) of qualities my carry-on bag needed:

1. Ease - mostly referring to being carried while strolling along my suitcase and the ability to be shoved under the seat in front of me because I don't want to store my bag overhead. Which meant it really needed to be a backpack. As much as I like messenger bags, I hate wearing them cross-body (it's an issue where that strap cuts when you're big busted) and detest wearing them on one shoulder and then having them sloooooowwwwlllyyyyysliiiiiidddeeedooooooowwwnmyarrrrrm and promptly to the floor. 'Specially when I have something in my other hand. Backpacks make the world a simpler place. Over both shoulders and you're ready to go, both arms/hands free.

2. Comfort - I won't be packing it heavy or using it a ton but I don't want a cheapy-cheapy backpack either, what with the cheap plastic straps. I'm thinking Jansport or Eastpack or something with fairly reliable straps.

3. Versatility - although this will mainly be a carry-on bag, I need it to be able to hold the following*:
a.) my laptop
b.) my small clutch
c.) a couple of magazines and books
d.) my iPod
e.) any fragile souvenirs (on the way home)
*Unfortunately Jack Sparrow had to be removed from the list. I can't figure out how I'm ever going to get him through the TSA scanner thingy.
It doesn't necessarily have to have a designated laptop sleeve as either I'll purchase one separately or have a sweatshirt in there (I know, tres hi-tech).
In addition, I realized that we may need a bag for our pool day, or if our pool day happens to morph into a water park day or if we just so happen to want to bring a bag to the parks to carry and/or stick in a locker.

4. Style - Really? Do you need to ask? It has to be cute. Shallow? Maybe. Sorry.

5. Affordability - since I won't really be getting a ton of use out of the bag after this trip, I don't want to be spending an up wards of $30-$40. Heck. I'd like to pay less than $20 before shipping.

And so the search began.

::cue Mission Impossible music::

I admited MRYPPNS new Crocs bag, but it struck out because it was a messenger style and I wasn't really into any of their backpacks.

I also considered some of the clearance Disney luggage on both the Disney site and on ebags, but I'm a tad worried about quality.

This guy was briefly in the running for being Jack-emblazoned and for coming with a lunch box:
5147Y2U8seL._SS384_.jpg

Alas he is plastic and too small for my laptop. :(

And then, as I perused ebags some more, I found this little darlin' of a bag and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the print:
jansport_citrus.jpg

(Sorry - I tried but couldn't find a bigger pic.)

You had me at "citrus print".
Add to the fact that it meets all the criteria.
Including #5 as it's on clearance for $19.99 and I have a 20% code for ebags which brings that puppy to $14.99 (about $22 with shipping).

I know, it's white. How long it stays clean will be directly proportional to the number of chocolate ice cream puddles in my proximity, but I'm not concerned. I can throw it in the washing machine if need be.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE! (in best informercial voice)

As an added bonus, I think it's something I'd actually use after the trip, particularly when traveling with my godson. He has a MONSTROUS diaper bag. And now that he's walking, it's awkward to be holding his hand and have the bag over my one shoulder. So this will improve that whole situation.

There's a tiny little part of my brain that is all irked that absolutely NONE of my luggage matches - suitcase, carry-on or wristlet, but honestly, I was so disgusted with that little piece of my brain that I promptly demonstrated how good of a whine-silencer duct tape can be.

I ordered it today and, according to the website, it should arrive no later than 7/16/08. Yippee skippee!

8 down, 6 to go!

"Yorick" would be better than "4Real," like that crazy New Zealand couple wanted for their son.

Glad that you have found, and purchased, a backpack that will meet all your criteria, with the added bonus of reuse value. :thumbsup2

More than halfway through! :woohoo:

That bag is adorable. Very Tink like. :thumbsup2
I need to find a solution to my own bag woes. I have been contemplating the merits of a backpack but I don't want to feel like a pack mule. I don't mind the cross body action, though it bothers DH tremendously, he is very territorial...what can I say. :lmao: I don't know. I think I need to try some out this weekend at various retail establishments.

One word: ScotchGuard (ok so maybe it's two words....but....) Seriously, pick up a can of that stuff and apply 2 or 3 coats to that baby. It won't prevent something as blatant as setting your beloved bag down IN a puddle of melted chocolate ice cream, but will make cleaning it up afterwards much easier!

Now, here's where I find myself in a dilemma... your PTR is totally inspiring me to start mine (I know, I know...!!), and yet you intimidate me at the same time. How do I follow an act like this!

Yeesh, as if Zzub weren't enough to shake off....

And to you I say, "Yes. Again."

Alright, please. I think if most of your readers are similar to my readers, they're used to our shoe/clothing/bag drama.

Oh wait. Half the time, that's me.:lmao:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Seriously, buy the good captain a seat, girl! How you'll convince him he has to take his boots off and put them in the tray to be scanned, I don't know, but as the captain says...

"persuade me.";) ;)

It's cute! And will perfectly match the new Croc flippies. Not that was a criteria, but there you go.

Whenever I hear this or read it, I think of the father in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" talking about how every word is derived from Greek. :rotfl:

::yes::

I think I need to try some out this weekend at various retail establishments.

That's too dangerous for Tink. Tink would spend much more money than anticipated.
Much more than is smart.
Much more than is safe.

::sigh::

I see myself ScotchGuarding EVERYTHING I OWN.

Ok, I seriously thought about not telling you and getting and shipping it to DS from a certain savvy captain, but I realize this could be the ULTIMATE potty training prize. So.....it was Target.com. And only $9.99 to boot!!!!

Tee hee.

By the by, have you gotten your Canvas Capri Croc flippies yet, in the oh so fashionable color?

"The root of the word 'Miller' is 'mille', which mean apple. And Portucalous, mean orange. So even though we different, in the end, we all fruit!"

Very cute bag! It's so you!

Count me in as another fan of Greek Wedding!

"He's a vegetarian."
"No problem! I make lamb!" :lmao:

Adorable bag! I ordered myself a tote from ebay recently but I do not know if it's big enough...off to ebags I go.

Not yet. I expect maybe by Friday. If not, Monday.

Yes, I quoted myself.
Is there some law against that?
Then consider me a fugitive. I hot item, even.

ANYWHO.

I checked the tracking on my coral Croc floppers.

According to UPS, they arrived in Boston and went out for delivery at 5:28 a.m. this morning.

My Crocs were up as early as I was.

It's a sign.

I'll hopefully be trying them on by lunch time.

Love the bag! Very cute.

Very cute bag! It's so you!

Can't wait for the bag to come in to see if the lemons, limes and grapefruit colors are as bright in person as they are on the bag.

Alas, Tinkerbellarella movie crime #549(ii): I have not seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding".

Flame away, friends, flame away.

Are Crocs fire retardant?
