That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

(And for the record, I have NO IDEA why this chapter is reading like the narrative out of an Indiana Jones movie/Hamlet/comic book/ChooseYourOwnAdventure novel. (Remember those? I loved those. Except I always picked the one that led you straight to the end. I used to get SO MAD! Then I'd pretend I didn't pick that one and pick the "right" one. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.))
I used to do that with the Choose Your Own Adventure books too!

(2. A "Countdown Rolodex".
Rolodex?
Yes. Rolodex. Lemme 'splain.
I think BF's head may literally pop right off them thar shoulders if he has to watch me count my trip down at home. Something along the lines of, "What are you seven?" might find its way out of his mouth. Followed by, "Is there some sort of problem with that? finding its way out of mine. Commence light-hearted yet slightly serious cussing out. Which doesn't bode well for me since I'm trying to limit the use of 'colorful language'. So. I'm sparing him the countdown calendar.
By using a countdown Rolodex.
In lieu of a large calendar I took a spiral bound book of index cards, glued some MHs (45, to be exact) to the blank side of each card, numbered them, and am in the process of adding Disney trivia to the lined side. As shown here:

and here:

And here:

I will start counting down at 45 days (I don't include my arrival day, so that'll be on 8/6) and each day I will share the trivia with Missy via e-mail and have a nice little visual reminder of the trip at my desk. If you'd like I can share the trivia here too.
Please share the trivia!!! :worship:

Lovely update!! :goodvibes

Well except for LL's.

I very much like your Countdown Rolodex idea. That could work for a lot of people that need something a little more discreet than my half-door sized poster of a countdown calendar!

Yeah!! That was an update worth waiting for! :) You have been Disney-busy and crafty!!

Add me to the list of those saying "yes, please" to sharing the trivia. That sounds like fun! I like the rolodex countdown concept and may I say that your penmanship is quite nice! :thumbsup2

CYA! I loved them, but the logic/commonsense sector of my brain must have been broken at the time because I invariably picked the options that ended up with me dying. Or whatever "Ha ha you lose!" alternative endings the CYAs had. It was a happy day when I did it right and got the "good" ending.

CYA did inspire me to write my own stories in CYA fashion. Mine included pictures. And much stomping-on of the main character by a giant dragon's foot. And much purloining of storylines from the King's Quest series of adventure computer games.

And numerous pictures of the backs of people's heads, since those were easier to draw than faces.

Ahhh... good times.

Hijack over. Sorry! Moving on:

BF and I will be road tripping down to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ for a couple of nights the week of 8/10. I'm excited (we're coaster people). He's never been and I haven't been since I was a teenager (back in medieval times). We're going to take it slow and relax and do the park over two days, with the safari on one of the mornings. We should be booking it this week. Yay! A mini-trip to look forward to before the GRANDADDY trip to Disney.

:woohoo: for a mini-trip! I'm wondering if you might somehow use the trip as a means of indoctrinating BF to Disney... Though too many repetitions of "If you like this remember Disney is better!" may get on his nerves.

.........As I mentioned before, the Croc flops are in...have been in...for some time.
DSCN0307-1.jpg
DSCN0308-1.jpg

They are the Canvas Capris and I love them! I've been wearing them everywhere. To the point where I'm worried that they might be old and grubby by the time the trip rolls around. ::sigh:: No matter. They shall be worn! I've also tossed around the idea of buying a pair of solid (colored) Canvas Capris. I just don't know if I want to spend another $32-$40.

Now that I've seen them first-hand, I can really appreciate these pics! Those little nubs on the footbed look mighty inviting. For a shoe, that is.

Secondly, the trip backpack is in and it's just as cute as it was online. The size is exactly what I expected and I think it's going to work well for a carry-on/pool bag (not to be confused with a carry INTO the pool bag). I just need to get some ScotchGuard (thanks LegoMom!) to help ward off stains from it's pristine white and citrus scattered glory.

Here is one of my dining room chairs modeling it:
DSCN0306-1.jpg

Awwww.....shucks! You're welcome. :flower3: The bag is cute. As mentioned on another thread, I'm going by Target again this weekend. Must. Resist. Cute. Bag. :scared:

The tertiary matter - clothes purchases. I got two new tank tops from Old Navy. Plain old shelf-bra type camis:
on459455-00vliv01.jpg

in black and white. I LOVE these and needed them but have decided not to break these bad boys in until the trip. I also bought three non-shelf tanks for shirt-makin' purposes for me, Missy and TK, like those pictured here, only white:
on572709-02vliv01.jpg

These are adorable, but I look at these longingly like the kid without ice cream looks at the kid with it. I can't wear something like that. One word: chest.... :headache:

COOLEST. COUNTDOWN. EVER!

And by all means, share the trivia!!!!

*Elmer's glue is WON.DER.FUL. Raise your hands if you knew it could be washed off with just water and a cloth.

Notice Tink's hand is not up. Tink didn't notice this until after she ended up with glue all over the front of one of the MHs on her bank. She was not happy. She didn't want to have to start all over. Then the little light bulb lit up and she thought, "Hey, if I could wash something off a painted wall, I bet I can wash it off this paint chip. I wonder if Elmer's Glue is washable?"
It is.

Ooh!...Ooh!....Me!...Me!! (raises hand exuberantly) Actually I work with Elmer's glue every day, and think nothing of wiping off my gluey hands on my clothes. Toss them in the wash and they come out good as new. I have also wiped a small amount off of a sweatshirt that I wanted to wear after work, that had just a small spot of glue on it. Comes right off, it does.

Toiletries - ahhh...I love shopping for travel-sized items almost as much as I like shopping at Staples.

Aah, a gal after my own heart...!

I was inspired to get this out of the way (or spend money, whatever you'd like to call it) after LegoMom posted about minimus.com on her PTR (Shout out for LegoMom's PTR! Read it!).

Hey look, a shout out for my PTR!....:rolleyes1

So here we are.
We are here.
And I’m BEAT.
Hope you enjoyed.

Yay you got it posted!!!!

So, when's the next one?!

:rotfl2:

.

I love the shoes! Mine are supposed to be here today. :thumbsup2 What's the name of your nail polish? Looks a little like I'm Not Really a Waitress.

I've actually decided that I'll bring one black pair of Old Navy flippies, my Croc Capris (and likely leave the Athens home - gasp!) and a pair of brown NY&Co. flippies. These last ones are the bomb diggity of “normal” flippies.
No, no, no must bring your Athens. They're perfect for the park. :cool1:

1. An "Alms for the Poor" Disney fund bank. It's for all my loose change between now and then. Well, in all honesty, it's for all my loose change between a couple months back and then. I used an old Crystal Lite container with the label peeled off. Cut a coin-shaped whole in the top and got to stickin' some Mickeys (as opposed to slippin' some Mickeys):
DH had about $400 in change when he turned it in. :scared1:

Very sassy. :woohoo:

MH looks good with your bag. ;)

Nutrogena SPF 85
Who knew they made 85?

I'm up in the air about bringing along a little thing of detergent. Part of me really wants to so I don't have to do laundry when I come home, but the vacation part of me is saying, "Laundry? Pfffft."
Skip it. You're on vacation. :laundy:

LOVE love LOVE the rolodex idea! I still haven't gathered any Mickey heads... that's got to go on my non existant list of things to do!

And I can't wait to see the bank pic!

What's the name of your nail polish? Looks a little like I'm Not Really a Waitress.

That's one of my favorite colors, I think I've gone through about 4 bottles already! Although this summer I've been wearing lots of Cha-Ching Cherry. :thumbsup2

Weird thing in common #3,459.z - I did the same thing.

I credit it to the innate sense that a Jedi is not a loser. EVER.

And coral-y. If that's a word.

It is now. ;)

I think I will be needing to wear this particular item of clothing upon receiving it. I'll be sure to wear appropriate non-clashing bottoms and footwear.:thumbsup2

All the colors I'm using are neutral-ish (a la Stacey and Clinton), so, unless you're sporting your neon pink capris, you should be good. :goodvibes

And I finer conglameration of toiletries there never was!

Well except for LL's.

I don't want to be rude.

Of course! She totally set the precedent.

Ahh....I have a few guesses as to what could be procured for my DH at Six Flags....:goodvibes

And yah for vacation in August! It's like the preliminaries!:lmao:

I know, right? I'm going to "test drive" some of my Disney stuff and let y'all know how it works out.

I used to do that with the Choose Your Own Adventure books too!

Yeah, apparently no one liked being killed in a dark alley.

I very much like your Countdown Rolodex idea. That could work for a lot of people that need something a little more discreet than my half-door sized poster of a countdown calendar!

LOL I think BF would have a coniption.

I like the rolodex countdown concept and may I say that your penmanship is quite nice! :thumbsup2

Thanks. :)
I've always been that way.
I was very proud of my A+ in penmanship.
Yes, Catholic school grades your penmanship.
Have you ever tried to explain to a nun why dotting your i's with a <3 is appropriate???

::sigh::

Funny, that. We went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg last year and I did something like that and I was easily able to gauge his level of tolerance. BG is much more "Disney" than most Six Flags parks but...we'll see...

On a related and much more exciting note, his (rather large) family living in Tennessee is tossing around the idea of getting everyone together while they're all in good health (his gramps is in his 80's) and hanging out for a bit. So far, two ideas have been in the running:
1. Renting a couple of RVs and driving to the Grand Canyon and
::drumroll, please::
2. DISNEY!!!

Last I heard it, option 2 is currently the one in favor. When the BF was telling me about it, it started like this, "Well babe, you might finally get your wish and get me to Disney."

It was said like a man resigned to much doom. :sad2: :rotfl:

Tell Photobucket to give the photo back. I want to see what the bank looks like!

Working on that. I might be able to get it done by the weekend. The camera and the bank currently reside in two different places.

Now that I've seen them first-hand, I can really appreciate these pics! Those little nubs on the footbed look mighty inviting. For a shoe, that is.

BUY. THE. BAG. (for your friend, of course!) ;)

I can't wear something like that. One word: chest.... :headache:

Honestly, I'm blessed with some, er, rather impressive girls myself. These are the ONLY shelf bra tanks I can wear. Mind you I still wear a bra with them. That is key. But they wash well and last a long time.

Hey look, a shout out for my PTR!....:rolleyes1

Well YEAH!

No, no, no must bring your Athens. They're perfect for the park. :cool1:

I think I'm going to test them both out on the Six Flags trip.

It's new. Protects against UVA AND UVB.

My favorite in the red group is from last year's winter (I think) collection: I've Red the Script.

Oh, please share the trivia, please, puh-lease, puh-lease! :yay:
Please share the trivia!!! :worship:
I, too, love the Rolodex idea! I hope you will share all of your trivia with us, so that we can enjoy it, too! :goodvibes

Girl, you need to get yourself to Home Depot, STAT! There are MHs to be rescued!!!

Yay! Aren't they the best? Listen, I don't mean to enable, but I put off buying more then my one pair of khaki Capri's for a year. I finally succumbed and I don't regret the purchase AT ALL! :thumbsup2

2. A "Countdown Rolodex".
Brilliant idea!

I wanted to stay on property at US, which was running in the $750 price range for 3 nights (with tickets, but still!). BG in Tampa was less, but not by much.
And there's good reason for BG hotels being less. :scared: Trust V.

This sounds just like my BIL! :headache: He has lived here his whole life and thinks Disney is touristy. Not to mention he's a foodie and would love everything about F&W! But the first time my nephew goes, he and his whole family have to go too! :headache::headache: Well get on it because Reid and I have a date with MK.

Smart. :thumbsup2

Doesn't everyone have I'm Not Really A Waitress? It's one of the best shades of rest. I also like Cha-ching Cherry, and this year I have been partial to Rock-Apulco Red, which I think came out last year, but still rocks (pun intended)!

I'll have to check out Red the Script and Dutch Tulips!

I feel the need to cue the music from Rocky because I feel like Tink has won the big fight! :yay: :woohoo:

I haven't really won anything yet. They've talked about a family trip before and then the plans have just gotten packed away. I'm not holding my breath. To be honest, regardless of where we'd go, even if we all just went down to TN, I'd be happy. I love BF's family. They're so easy-going. Going to Disney would just be a bonus.

Listen, I don't mean to enable, but I put off buying more then my one pair of khaki Capri's for a year. I finally succumbed and I don't regret the purchase AT ALL! :thumbsup2

Unfortunately the budget is tight this coming month/month-and-a-half so it may not be in the cards. But I'm SO sold on the Capris. My mom tried mine on and she loved them too!

She also got a good deal on the new higher heeled ones that criss-cross over the top of your foot. They had them at Macy's and had mistakenly marked one of the colors at $30, instead of $50, so they had to give them to her at that price. And she had a coupon! The woman finds SO MANY shoe bargains at Macy's. I would too but I'm very much NOT a Macy's fan.

And there's good reason for BG hotels being less. :scared: Trust V.

I'm not kidding when I say that it wasn't much less for Tampa. The package deals for 3 nights with park tickets there were only about $150-$200 less than Universal. And none of the hotels advertised a shuttle to the park, though they may have offered it.

We do still want to go to Tampa but need to better plan for the trip. Depending on what happens when we're visiting Missy's family at the end of our trip, we may be able to sneak in a BG visit. The BF will be so jealous!

I like DT as well, but I'm more of a red girl, OPI Red, You Make Me Vroom, Big Apple Red.

Yeah, I like the pinky reds and the deep, velvety, purple-based reds as opposed to the red pepper, orange-based reds.

I want a job at O.P.I., naming the colors. I'd totally come out with a Disney line. The red would be named The Main Mouse's Shorts.

All the new goodies are great. I love the light blue tank. Looks perfect for some hot Florida weather.

You look practically ready to go already!

Sadly me. I've tried, but just can't pull off reds at all. I'm very pastey white, with some gold undertones and anything bright just looks way too glaring on me. I'm resigned to having to long longingly at all the OP reds when I'm at the salon. I can usually wear corals, but have to bring them with me as for some reason my salon only carries reds and pinks.
