I got the packet of information from you today. I can't begin to tell you how many hours of enjoyment I am going to get from pouring over and studying all the things that you sent.

My folks lived in Key West from 1956 to 1959. Their names are Ward (Bart) and Ruth Bartusch. They lived on Elizabeth Street just a couple blocks from Sloppy Joes and from the Turtle Kraals. My Dad was stationed on the base that had the sea planes.

Anyway, thank you so much for the note, and all the goodies. It really means a lot to me. I am going to be staying at the Radisson the night that you marry Fawn this coming January, and I am sure hoping that i get to meet you in person. Fawn said she would need rice throwers and cake eaters, so we will try to make it in time for the festivities.

Hello Sue,
I am so glad that you received your package of goodies - I am going to be in Key West again on the weekend that the 9-27 group is down there - with family still in Key West and my uncle still struggling with some "old age" ailments (and he is the last link to my mama) I try to get down every couple of months - tell you a quick thing about old conchs - as family members pass on, the responsibilities of taking care of their resting place is passed on to "younger" generations. We are taught from very young that taking care of their resting places is as important as taking care of our living family - and since the KW cementary has so much interesting and unforgettable characters of long ago, I find it quite an honor to "hold the key" to my "resting" family. this is too one of the reasons I have to go down as often as I do - I take advantage also of it to approach the merchants that I do, in order to see if they will work with folks as yourself and give a break in what is a very expensive town for the "tourist". I have been asked a number of times what am I getting out of this, but as I will tell anyone nice people do do nice things for nice people for just a thank you in return and that is all to it. When I get back from KW, will let you know what other goodies I was able to put together.
