I was shocked my dad was able to pull off getting me a plane ticket at the last minute he was suprised how many seats where left

Still more than two months until Thanksgiving, so not necessarily last minute. Number of seats left isn't necessarily the same as number of seats currently assigned.

What airline? If it is Alliegant, many people do not purchase the seat, they let Alligiant give them a seat.

I just found out i am flying American airlines if that changes anything

No. It does not change anything.

Is it on Thanksgiving Day ? Most people fly the day or 2 before . We have had family members who would fly in on a red eye or early AM flight on Thanksgiving morning as it was cheaper not to mention not as crowded at the airports.

We flew PDX to MCO last Thanksgiving Day and it was great. Both airports and flight felt quite peaceful.

So, two of the busiest, most expensive travel days of the year. No, all those seats will fill.
