Thanksgiving @ Universal Orlando

We're planning our first trip to Universal during Thanksgiving break 2014. We'll be staying at one of the deluxe on-site hotels for the express pass benefit. I'm an experienced WDW planner, but this Universal stuff is all new to me! Would you mind answering a few questions?

1) Do you think there's any hope of getting an APH rate at one of the hotels during the week of Thanksgiving?

I got the best deal on Orbitz (515 total for 2 nights 11/27-11/29) The APH deal hasn't been a good deal for me in general. However, I did wind up getting a good deal for Cabana Bay 11/26 (only staying there because we arrive at 11pm swtiching to RPR the next day).

2) Where can I find information about our options for Thanksgiving dinner?

I had a hard time finding info. I called Universal and looked on Trip Advisor. Finally decided to go with Portofino Sparkling Wine Buffet because I don't think my kids would really like the food at the Gathering Feast.

3) Is it true that we don't need to plan everything months ahead of time? For example, will we be able to make dinner reservations in the morning for later that night?

I have only been one other time, but reservations were not needed at UO like WDW at all.

It's probably too late (although I would love to hear what you wound up doing). We will be there too then heading to WDW Boardwalk 11/29
