Just wondering...what size turkey do yo prepare for Thanksgiving...and if you have a special stuffing too ( I watch Emiril wa-a-a-ay too much :) )

We'' be celebrating at my Daughter, WishingStar's house....and...I understand we'll be doing two 15 pounders...

Naturally, there will be mashed potatoes and gravy, a salad, spiced apple rings,
candied sweet potatoes, celery sticks/cream cheese and a bunch of other stuff...

followed by pumpkin pie...or apple pie...or elderberry pie...

beverages will be:

coffee :drinking1

apple cider :drinking1

eggnog :drinking1

ok!

what about your Thanksgiving Dinner?

I have a stuffing recipe that calls for Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme......I think I keep using it because I like the song :-)

This year, (and every year for that matter) we are having Thanksgiving dinner at our house, the whole family is coming down! woohoo! Our menu is:

One big turkey

A large ham

Mashed potatoes

Cranberry stuff

Corn

Green Bean Casserole

Mac and Cheese

and some other stuff...

About two hours later, we have dessert:

Apple pie

Pumpking pie

And alot of others that I don't pay attention too.

And alot of coffee, beer, and hot chocolate.

Scrumptious!::yes::

Very small turkey this year as it is just my son and I. Cooking it on the rotissere though. YUM!

Stuffing is a sage and sausage stuffing with celery and onions.

Sweet potatos, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, seven layer salad.

Relish tray with plenty of black olives.

Fresh baked dinner rolls with honey butter.

Drinks will be juice or milk or tea.

And I think I will make a pumpkin pecan pie.

Ooooh sounds so yummy.

I would like to suggest a website:

www.allrecipes.com

It has recipes ranked by those that have tried it, so you can have an idea of it is good or not before you try it. It has many stuffing recipes.

Good song! I bet the stuffing is tasty!

BTW....i should have said why we're doing 2 turkeys ...that's 4 drumsticks then....

4 drumsticks should avoid the "who gets a drumstick?" debate....

those Grandkids grow up so fast....

I could do this every month......we have turkey and bread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy....I try to make everyones favorite veggie.....so brocolli, carrots, corn, squash, tossed salad, then cranberry sauce and pickles and olives. Dessert is pumpkin pie, apple pie and a heirloom pie plate that was my great great grandmothers.....it holds our chocolate cream pie and is HUGE.......we start our meal with shrimp and cocktail sauce on a bed of spinach leaves.....very pretty this way

I'm in big trouble now....

DMIL makes a cranberry jello that is quite yummy...

and I forgot!

woe is me.....

I'll be :worship: if she finds out....

Everyones Thanksgiving Dinner sounds yummy...

I can help with stuffing-I tear up a large loaf of white bread-a little stale works best. I add chopped celery, onion, salt and pepper and parsley-enough to be seen throughout and add enough water to get it to come together-but not wet. Then add about a 1/2 a package of the breakfast sausage that comes in a tube-break it into pieces(raw) and work it into the stuffing. thatwould probably bee enough to stuff both 15 # turkeys, but since you've got 2 you should try 2 different stuffings-just for fun.I can also give you another recipe for potato stuffing if you're interested. If you have any questions just ask-I don't work from recipes usually- too many years of watching my grandmother and now doing it for the whole family for so many years.

pumpkin/tomato bisque.

turkey with basic bread stuffing.

mashed potatoes with gravy.

salad.

"from scratch" cranberry sauce.

some sort of sweet potato dish.

other veggies -- we haven't decided yet.

wine for the adults, Pepsi and diet Pepsi.

must have pumpklin pie. haven't decided on the other desserts, but they will be home baked.

and I usually buy chocolate turkeys for the kids.

It's usually a 25 lb bird or larger if we can find one. We usually have a crowd.

I also make a cranberry relish passed down through the generations my family lovingly calls 'That cranberry crud'.
All my brothers and sisters love it, but our kids and spouses, not so much. ;)

Every year right about now I get such a craving for that turkey dinner! It's all I can do to hold off until the end of the month. After all the left overs are gone, just the seeing the word turkey makes me sick. ;)

mmm JAES, that stuffing sounds so good!
:) My favorite part of the whole meal.

We usually do a small turkey (10 or 12 lbs) because it's just our family of 4. My kids do eat their weight in turkey though so it doesn't go too far for leftovers.

We do stuffing out of the box...I know, the shame, the shame. But it's so easy!

We also have mashed potatoes and gravy, cole slaw (made with my late grandma's yummy recipe), sweet potatoes, corn, green beans, applesauce, and cranberry sauce.

It's exactly the same Thanksgiving dinner my mom's been making for the past 48 years. Some traditions are worth carrying on!

I host Thanksgiving and usally do between a 20 and 25 pound turkey.
Stuffing- Stove top, I don't care for the home made stuff.
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Candied Yams
Mixed Veggies
Biscuts w/butter
Pumpkin Pie
Cherry/Cranberry Cream Cheese Pie
And this year I am making a Pumpkin Ice Cream Pie
Water/Coffe/Tea/Soda/Kool Aid/Milk/Eggnog

It always seems like we get a turkey big enough for a family twice our size. I think last year the one I bought was 22-24 lbs. Over the years we've kind of fallen into the habit of expecting each person to bring the same thing each year. The turkey, stuffing and potatoes are the responsibility of whomever is hosting the dinner that year (we move around almost every year).

We keep things pretty basic since we always still end up with too much of everything. We've also had a bit of a joke about candied yams. None of us like them but it just doesn't seem like Thanksgiving without any so we have a can that is pulled out each year as a stand in.

Well, just DH and I for Thanksgiving unless we get company...

Shrimp cocktail!
Nibbles of olives, crudites, crackers, cheese (mainly to keep DH out of the real food, LOL!)
rolls
homemade cranberry sauce
turkey breast
mashed potatoes and gravy
stuffing (I am admitting to Stove Top also! I usually add a few things to force the idea it is homemade.)
broccoli casserole (I can't tell you how much I hate green bean casserole but everyone else around me loves the stuff)
pumpkin pie with whipped cream (alright, Cool Whip Light and Mrs. Smith!)

Don't you just love leftovers? We make turkey enchiladas as a tradition!

Since I live in Canada we've already had out T dinner......very traditional...turkey,dressing,veggies,cranberry sauce,and pumpkin pie.:p

This year we'll be celebrating a traditional US Thanksgiving with my family from the UK (Britain does not celebrate Thanksgiving)at Ohana's!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:

This year we are having a special dessert.....

BIRTHDAY CAKE!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRER_PAPA!! on Thanksgiving Day.

:bday: :cake:

homemade stuffing (and it does get STUFFED into the turkey)
sweet potatoes
