DH and I are seriously thinking of cruising next year at either Thanksgiving or Christmas. We always have way too many family obligations at these times, and it would be nice to just say, "we're going on a cruise!" Plus, of course it will be so fun! :cool1:

I am just trying to decide which cruise to do. I'm not as concerned with the ports, as we have been to most of them anyway, or will have by that time. And I know the difference in length is important to consider! But I was just wondering, what do they do differently on these two cruises??

Do they have a special Thanksgiving dinner?
What types of holiday/Christmas events are there?
How's the weather?

I am sure they make these cruises really special, and would love to hear your experiences. These cruises are pricey, so I will need some info to get DH interested!!

TIA for your help!!

We've done almost every Thanksgiving at sea since DCL started to sail. They have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner (you can order from the regular menu, too), and the port and ships are all decked out, starting with the Turkey Day cruise. We did Christmas last year, and they had Santa in the morning handing out a little gift to all the kids. I think they had a brief show/character photo op too.

We would love to cruise during these holidays but they are some of the most expensive because they are so popular. In 2006 we are going in December but not over Christmas.

We did the New Year's Eve cruise, (2003-2004) and yes it was very expensive.($7,000 for 4 for 7 days, expensive by my standards, I know some who post here who don't consider that expensive.)
Our kids were 12 and 16 and the time and we viewed it as what likely would be our last big family vacation. Vacation during summer 2004 was touring colleges with DS. This summer was Disneyland and getting DS ready to go away for college, so despite the cruise, it appears it really was our last big vacation as a family, and worth every penny.

Barb, What is the weather like at Thanksgiving? We are considering the 4 night Wonder at that time, but I don't want to be cold. We have been to WDW at that time when it is only 60 during the day. Are any Xmas decorations up at Thanksgiving?
