Thanksgiving - Live and Solo Day 4, November 27th
Who - Me, age 35
When - Wednesday Nov. 24th thru Monday Nov. 29th
Where - Coronado Springs
How - Solo (many Disney vacations under my belt, many solo vacations under my belt, but this is my first solo Disney trip)
Why - My usual traveling partner, my cousin AnnMarie, has the responsibilities of a family and couldn't travel over the holidays.
My day started at 8:00 this morning - a quick shower and I was on my way to MGM. I immediately ran over to Tower Of Tower and rode it twice in a row. By the time I got off the ride the second time, the wait-time was 30 minutes. I grabbed a fastpass and made my way over to The Great Movie Ride. It was practically a walk-on. I stopped in the Commissary and got biscuits and gravy and a diet coke ($6.00). After that, I went over to Muppetvision. I hadn't seen that show in a while and enjoyed it thoroughly. I then made my way to WWTBAM - PI! I got as high as number seven this time.
By this point, my fastpass window for TOT had opened up. I made my way over, but first picked up another fastpass. This TOT experience was great. There were so many drops, I lost count.
I tried WWTBAM - PI! again. Number two this time - so close, but yet so far!! I did the Backlot tour and then made my way back to TOT.
By now, it was getting close to 2:00. I didn't have anything pressing to still do at MGM, so I decided to try to make my way over to the Magic Kingdom to see the 3:00 Share A Dream Come True Parade. The line for the bus to the TTC was crazy. I saw a bus for the Wilderness Lodge come by, and jumped on that. I got off at the WL and took a little time to check out the Christmas decorations in the lobby. (Annmarie and I had stayed there last year - I loved the atmosphere but didn't really care for our room.) I made my way over to the dock and caught the boat to the MK.
I made record time and was at and in the MK by 2:40. The train had just pulled into the station, so I decided to ride it around the park. By the time we made our way back to the Main Street Station, it was starting to drizzle a little bit. There weren't very many people waiting for the parade, so I got a good spot on the curb outside of City Hall. It was great - I'm such a sap for the parade, it always makes me cry!!
At this point, I was tired and hungry so I caught the bus back to CS. I stopped at the Pepper Market for a late lunch/early dinner (Chicken quesadilla and a diet coke ($18.00). I stopped in the arcade and played a few games. (Annmarie - I played Ms. PacMan for you!!) I made my way back to my room, took a quick shower and started to head back out.
While I was in my room, it started to rain very hard. It stopped within a few minutes though. My original plan was to head over to Epcot and see the 8:15 Candlelight Processional. The thought of walking in Epcot did not appeal to me, so I decided to take the bus to MGM, and grab a boat to Epcot. I figured that would save me a few steps since the boat lets you off in the World Showcase.
My first stop in Epcot was Great Britain. Two of my closest friends do not get the whole "Disney Experience". It does nothing for them. Souvenir shopping was always difficult for them until I discovered a great collection of British candy bars that they love. Now it is tradition for me to bring them home some.
I headed over to the American Pavilion and got on the "general seating" line. It was about 7:00 at this time. The rain was starting again, and it continued to come down steadily. I was wearing a slicker (Land's End - I recommend it), but my feet and legs were getting soaked. Although I couldn't hear the narration, I was able to hear all of the music and singing from the 6:45 CP. It was beautiful.
All of a sudden, the skies opened up and it started to pour. Not only was it a torrential downpour, it seemed to be coming down at an angle. After about 15 minutes, it showed no sign of stopping. I made the decision not to stay there. I was pretty much standing in a puddle, and all I could think about was getting sick.
I left the line, and headed out of World Showcase. (On a good note - there was no line for the Maelstrom, so I rode it!!). On my way out, I also rode Spaceship Earth which only had a five minute wait. I grabbed a bus back to the CS, took a warm shower and here I am writing this trip report.
Random thoughts and observances:
I had hoped to get tiramisu from Italy this evening, but it was raining so hard I bypassed the cart.
Next year I am buying a universal remote control and bringing it with me. I can't stand these TV remotes that don't let me punch in a channel.
I think I saw A. Martinez (the soap opera actor) at MGM today. It wasn't him; he has a twin running around.
Bell Services was able to get my suitcase zipper open, however now when I close it, there is a six inch gap that doesn't close. I half expect to see my clothing coming out piece by piece on the JetBlue baggage claim on Monday!!
I had breakfast PS's for The Maya Grill and lunch PS's for The Kona Cafe. Due to time constraints, I blew off both of them.
The plan for tomorrow -- Breakfast at Boma and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in the evening - I'll play the rest of the day by ear.
As always, your questions and comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
Laura
