Thanksgiving in the USA

I am from Australia (obviously, due to my name, lol) and I have never been in America for Thanksgiving. All I know of it is what I have seen in the movies and TV shows and gather it's quite a significant holiday consisting of a grand meal.

It seems that we will be at WDW during that holiday so I would love to experience a Thanksgiving meal being at WDW.

Where do you recommend that we spend our Thanksgiving? Is it traditionally a lunch or dinner meal or a whole day thing, so either meal would be good. We will probably not do parks that weekend as I assume it will be busy, but we can go to any park for a meal, or a resort restaurant or Disney Springs. The saying "when in Rome, do as the Romans do". So I'd love to share/experience an event/celebration in the country I'm visiting that is important to them.

Would love some suggestions on where to have a meal on Thanksgiving day from those who have been there during that time.

Thanksgiving is a big holiday here and each family celebrates it in their own way. For us, it's not an all day affair and we prefer to eat earlier, around 2:00 pm, compared to traditional dinner hours. Liberty Tree Tavern essentially serves a traditional Thanksgiving day meal year round, and as we enjoy the food there, it'd be my pick. Just look up if any restaurant you are considering serves a special or traditional Thanksgiving meal on that day. Some of the restaurants stick to their normal menu, so you wouldn't necessarily experience Thanksgiving. Like the previous poster stated, Liberty Tree always serves what many consider a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey and gravy. When I think of traditional Thanksgiving I think of waaaay too much food (at lunch time) crammed in the house with a bunch of people. So you might also look if any buffets are having a Thanksgiving meal. Then you get the waaaay too much food and eating yourself silly aspect.
