Thanksgiving Dinner

Hi,
We will be arriving on Thanksgiving day (around 11:00am). We will more than likely want to grab a quick snack when we get there, however I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion for Thanksgiving dinner.
I am thinking maybe somewhere not in a park would be best. We are a very basic no-frills kind of family (with the exception of me) so all we really need is turkey, potatoes, stuffing, corn(hopefully good lol).
Any suggestions would be VERY HELPFUL!
Thanks,
Laurie:flower3:

Hi Laurie,

We are arriving right around the same time on Thanksgiving day. We've decided to try to do the Hoop-De-Due Review if we can get it. Our second choice is going to be Liberty Tree Tavern and our 3rd choice would be Boma's because we'll be staying at the AKL. I'm nervous about getting what we want since we arrive on Thanksgiving Day and with the 90 +10 rule folks who arrive the weekend before will all be able to book before we can make our ADR. So that's why we decided to have some backup choices.

Cathy

Cathy, I never thought about the 90+10:eek: Now I'm concerned we are not going to get what we want (not that I know what that is yet LOL). I was thinking maybe Primetime cafe or Wispering CAnnyon or even Chef Mickey (doubt we'll get Mickey's now).
Well, I have to put on my thinking cap and I hope for the best when the time comes to make my ADR.
Thanks
Laurie:)

If you are staying near POR, Boatwright's offers an awesome thanksgiving dinner! Very traditional and enough to even fill my pot belly up. Afterwards you and your family can venture next door to the lounge and watch Bob. He's a blast for the WHOLE family!

What we found for Thanksgiving is that many restaurants offered a special Thanksgiving offering. So even if it's not a restaurant that would typically serve Turkey, they might have it that night.

we ate at Chef Mickey's this past Thanksgiving. Food was alright and the character interaction was awesome. I think you will find at most places on site the food will be about the same.

Thanks everyone for the tips:thumbsup2
That like was very helpful; I think I'm going to TRY for Chef Mickey's, second 50's Primetime, third choice could be anything:confused3
Thanks again,
Laurie

Laurie,
Sorry I didn't mean to scare you about the 90 + 10 but it's always good to be prepared and have a back up plan. I hope you get your first choice!

I am planning a Thanksgiving Disney Trip(Me & DBF) as well, and am looking for opinions about where to have Thanksgiving Dinner. We will be staying the 25-29 with the Basic Dining Plan. Wednesday when we arrive, it will really only be a half day to spend at the parks. We are planning on doing Epcot this night (it's our least favorite) and dining at Le Cellier, Thanksgiving will be at MK with possible dining at Liberty Tree, Friday will be AK with possible dinner at Ohana, and Saturday will be HS with possible dining at Mama Melroses. The question I am facing is whether or not it is worth it to eliminate a dinner in order to try to have Thanksgiving Dinner at CRT. I have never been to CRT and do not know if it truly worth the two table service credits. Help!!

Was just coming here to post a question about Thanksgiving myself!

Am worried about that we arrive ON Thanksgiving - and am worried about making ADRs and that what we want will be snatched up already with others arriving soon due to the 90+10 - then reading here, others have that concern also.

Since we are arriving, hungry from traveling, with fussy kids who don't all LIKE Thanksgiving food, am thinking that a buffet will be my best choice.
Have never done Chef Mickey's for dinner, so was thinking with the addition to their menu of Thanksgiving items, that would be a good time to try it. But now am worried that we won't get an ADR. Need like 6:15, 6:30 to allow enough time to arrive at Disney that day.

We do want to go to MK that night just to see Wishes & Spectro, so want to be close to there.

Our other choices are Crystal Palace - and 1900 Park Fare. We love the regular menu at Park Fare, so thought would save that for another night.

Crystal Palace - anyone have any input as to their menu for that day?

But Chef Mickey's is our first choice - and am worried now that we won't get it. Not much flexibility in the time we want to eat - want to arrive and eat right away, and allow time to get over to MK, too.

Original thought was 50's Prime Time - thought that would be fun for Thanksgiving! Or thought of Coral Reef - we don't like seafood, so never dine there, and figured this would be our shot to do so, with them serving turkey that day!

How about Ohana's? Anyone do that for Tgiving? Again my worry is with the fussy kids, so thinking of doing a buffet. But we do Crystal Palace EVERY TRIP and want something different.

What does 90 + 10 mean?

Thanks

This is the way I understand it to be: You can make your ADR's 90 days prior to check in plus the next 10 days following. So, if you are staying for 10 days you can make all your ADR's at the 90 day mark from arrival rather than having to make individual calls for each day of your trip.

MightyAlweg,

Laurie is right. Since most people traveling arrive on the weekend it means the folks who are arriving on the Saturday/Sunday before Thanksgiving can all make their ADR's several days before those of us arriving on Thanksgiving day.

Laurie,

We are now considering totally chaning our plan and switching what I had planned for Thursday with Friday. We were going to go to T-Rex on Friday and I believe they are taking ADR's 180 days out because you call them directly. That way we can relax and have dinner in the early afternoon after we arrive and not worry about the 5 year old being too tired to sit through the HDDR show after getting up at 3:00 AM to go to the airport. We switch resorts and get the DDP on Saturday so we need to hit T-Rex before then since it's not part of DDP.

We were there for Thanksgiving last year. We had dinner at Citricos..I would not recommend this to anyone!

Lots of places, if not all, had a special turkey dinner. Some had only a turkey dinner, some had it in addition to their regular menu.

One tip for Thanksgiving week...the days up until and including Thursday are pretty decent at the parks...you can easily get a fast pass for the popular attractions and only wait about 10 minutes for any other..

Beginning Friday until Sunday late afternoon..OMG...crowds everywhere! The best thing to do is take advantage of the late nights. The parks empty out around 5:00pm and by 8:00 you can get on anything you want (except Soarin and Expedition Everest!!) right away as many times as you want. My advice is sleep in! Spend some time at the pool and hit the parks later. We went to MK at 10:00pm one night and got on about 10 rides in an hour! The only reason it took a whole hour was because we had to walk a few minutes to each place. My sons went on Splash mountain about 8 times in a row one night..then went over to space mountain and rode that many times. I took my daughter on Dumbo, Its a Small World, Carousel, Snow White and the Grand Prix track in about 20 minutes total! DHS is pretty empty too. Epcot is best during the day..lots go at night (mostly because they have dinner there, then stay for the light show at 9:30).

Good Luck and have a blast!!

Do you think that the time you try to make the ADR for will make a huge difference? I was thinking many would do Thanksgiving dinner from 4-8ish and if we went like 11-1ish we might get in easier? Any thoughts? Do i have it all backwards? Since Thanksgiving is a busy season, do you think they will extend EMH's like the did at Easter/Spring Break?

Honestly Thanksgiving Day is not that busy. You should not have a hard time getting a reservation anywhere except Liberty Tree Tavern or Le Cellier. I had 4pm ressies and the place I went was only 2/3 full.

My room at the Contemp. was right above Chef Mickeys, I could look over the railing and see the whole dining room...they were not overly crowded all day either.

We arrived on thanksgiving last year and did 1900 Park Fare. I called on my 180 day and got within 30 min of the time I asked for. We LOVED it!! The food was good and the character interaction was great. The stepsisters alone were worth the price. Halarious!!!

That does make me feel a bit better I have to say. It will be hard enough i think since I am making an ADR for 8.
