We live in West Palm Beach and our families all in in NC. This year we have decided to meet in Disney. We are going to be there just on Thanksgiving Day at the Magic Kingdom. Our son (5) has been there 3 times and it will be our daughter's (1) first time. Can anyone give us an idea about what to expect with the crowds. Some people tell us Thanksgiving Day is pretty quiet, while others tell us it is packed. Anyone help? Also we are looking at doing Ohana's for dinner. Does that sound like a good idea? Thanks in advance.

:welcome: Shlov1!
Thanksgiving Day is one of the absolute busiest days of the year at WDW.

all of Thanksgiving weekend was crowded. if you go, make sure you go early, and just expect to have to deal with crowds. if you know what you're getting into, it'll make the day much better :)

Call as soon as you are eligible for your dining reservation. 90+10 days out. So 90 days from the day your reservation starts at a WDW resort, then ten more days of reservations.

Busy busy busy. We were there on Thanksgiving a few years ago and MK was super packed with ride/attraction lines all well over an hour+. We bugged out to HS (then MGM) and it was busy also, but a little more breathing room (but this was before TSM).

It is crazy busy. Out of all the Disney parks I think AK is least busy that day. if you are gung-ho on MK then be there for opening and be prepared for the crowds, ressies are a must!

yeah
MK on thyanksgiving day is just baaad. we went to wdw last year during Thanksgiving and went to HS that day it wasn't bad at all there. But our resort neighbors went to MK. They said it was wall to wall and they looked like they've been through battle lol.

Just be aware that if everyone in your family doesn't get there by opening time in the morning, they may not get in at all. It's one of the peak attendance days of the year and park closures (not letting any more guests in) are likely.

Nah.. Althoough it was very crowded, last year was far from being closed out due to capacity.

the crowds really start on Wednesday [day before] and stays very crowded thru Sunday.

if you want lesser crowds come down the weekend of the 20th.

DW and I are taking all 23 members of our direct family to Disney over Thanksgiving but we are arriving on the 19th and returning home on the 27th. we plan on doing the parks the first few days and just "cherry picking" some rides as the crowds increase or doing pool days.

Not to steal your thread, but I was wondering about the Sunday after Thanksgiving? We are coming down that Saturday and planning on going to MK on Sunday. Should we change it to Epcot or does it really matter?

That Sunday most people are heading home, you are actually arriving at a very good time. We left the sunday after and it was like a cattle drive to the airport lol.

We went to Epcot last year on Thanksgiving. While it was crowded, it was nowhere near being unbearable.

Honestly, I would avoid MK on Thanksgiving (or any major holiday).
