We are considering a Thanksgiving trip to the Fort, What is the weather like? Rainy? Temp?

We've been the past 5 years and I can say it's never rained but one year it will be cold and one year it's hot. Bring an assortment of clothes. Never had to wear much more than long sleeves and sweat shirt but a heavy jacket won't hurt as a back up.

You didn't mention what kind of camping you will be doing. If you're in a camper or pop up you'll be fine. In a tent bring blankets.

The absolute best weather at the Fort for us was Thanksgiving last year. It's my favorite time of year there.
My husband and I will be in a camper and right now, my bother in law would be in a tent
"Bother in law"? Was that a Freudian slip? That could describe mine too!! :rotfl:

Usually not a lot of rain, but temps can be all over the place and nights can be really chilly (as in put the heat on in the camper). Layers work well, and maybe a few extra blankets for whoever sleeps in the tent. :thumbsup2

We were there this past Thanksgiving and it was absolutely beautiful! Never rained, chilly at night and perfect during the day. We plan on doing it again next year!

If you really want to know everything about camping at the Fort on Thanksgiving, read these three reports:

For any TCD fans out there, the 2006 trip report is quite remarkable. It contains exactly 10 posts. My, how times have changed ;)

Oh, and the short answer to your question is that Thanksgiving is the best time to camp at the Fort.

Period.

Thank you so much, I have read some of your reports and enjoy them. I will read the above.

LOL! This is Florida, so you never know. It got cold earlier than normal this year, but we always bounce back and don't stay cold during that time of the year for more than a day or two. We went this year to FW for Thanksgiving and had beautiful weather and no rain.

It's been average the last couple years, although 3 years ago it was FREEZING (at least for us Floridians), it actually snowed in Orlando that year.

This past Thanksgiving, was cool to cold at night, cool to mild during the day. Wouldn't worry too much about rain, unless a cold front comes through.

Great time of the year to go!
