Lots of great things happened today… despite the biggest crowds I’ve seen at the gates at park open since the pandemic began.

Once the gates opened, it was like the running of the guests (bulls). I’ve never seen so many people bolt into the park and tear up MS. I believe that was due almost entirely to guests rushing to ROTR. The good news for me is that when I got to the Fantasyland side of the rope (to the right of the hub), there were only about seven people there. The ROTR side had at least 200.

I met a nice family as we waited for rope drop. I asked the daughter if she was seventeen. She gave me a quizzical look and explained that she was twenty four. I’m such a bad judge of age these days but we all got a good laugh out of my gross underestimation.

At rope drop, a young girl (9? 10?) ran for PP. I couldn’t pass her because she ignored virtually every call for her to stop. The good news is that when I got to the queue, she had to wait for her family so I was able to pass her… and was first :-). She was waiting on five people or so. I saw several people either duck under the chains or hop over the rails. Kind of annoying. Sure, they may have been trying to catch up with their parties but others might see that, think it’s OK and the orderly process devolves into a free-for-all.

Did OK on Buzz today. More importantly, I ran into a couple I know in line. That was a nice surprise since I know them from the LA improv community and not DL. In fact, the guy has been on various shows and in a few movies. He and I shared a cruiser. They were both impressed with my 1M+ game.

I also saw two CMs that I hadn’t seen in quite some time. Indeed, the first was at the rope and I didn’t recognize her at first because of her mask and I also hadn’t seen her since the before times.
When she came up to hug me, that’s when I realized who she was. I saw another woman at Buzz who I also know. I gave them each a mini Twix bar :-).

The biggest and best news for me was that I bumped into a woman with whom I used to be close (the one I mentioned last week). We actually had a nice 30-minute conversation and she gave me two big hugs. I’ve missed her greatly and it was especially good to see her. She used to say such sweet things to me and I once told her that her spirit was so bright that it was almost blinding All in all, it was the best day I’ve had at DL in a few years.

ETA: I asked a few CMs if they’d heard anything about the hand-rolled candy canes being made this year. Both had been told that they will be offered soon. But they weren’t sure when. I hope I get to see them before I leave for Chicago in mid-December.
