Thanksgiving AK Strategy

i am rethinking my AK strategy for Thanksgiving. Originally we were planning to rope drop. Now we have booked a dessert party the night before, so it seems like it would be too much.

How bad do you think it would be to get there around 11am for lunch and then stay until park close. The only activities we plan to do without FP are the wilderness train/conservation station and then spend some time playing in the bone yard.

From my experience we usually leave AK around 1 pm on thanksgiving or Christmas Day. Now last year for Christmas they were sending everyone to AK, so it was getting packed by 1-2 pm. Two years ago the weather wasn't great so AK wasn't too crowded, but I would suggest if you want to get most stuff done to be they around 9:30-10.

Last year my DH and DS got to AK around 2:30 on Thanksgiving and while it most definitely wasn't empty, it wasn't uncomfortable. They had fp's for the safari and EE and also rode KRR and then got another EE FP. Of course that could mean nothing this year lol, but going by last year your plan wouldn't be bad!

Thanks for the responses. Right now I have my first FP at 10am and I will leave as is for now. Rope drop would really be for me I think and trying to ride EE as much as I can.

It will be interesting to see what the crowds are really like. Looking back at my pictures, I think my son enjoyed playing the drums in Africa and the boneyard more than anything. We won't do any shows.
