Thanksgiving 2011, Who is gonna be there?

Woo-Hoo, just finalized my reservations for Thanksgiving:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: This time we are going to be able to stay longer and I'm so looking forward to this trip. Let's hoping we get put in a quieter loop than we were in for Halloween. The kids are super excited because they didn't think we would be able to go again so soon.

Well single digits for our vacation start but wont be arriving at the Fort for 12 more days, making an overnight stop in Georgia to visit family for Thanksgiving but then it's on to the Fort by Sat. morning!!:cool1::banana::love::woohoo::yay:

Well, the YensidCamper and family made to the Fort today! The place is packed. We had a blast today just going around the Fort on foot. I will try to get some pictures uploaded to photobucket tomorrow. If anyone else is here give us a post.

Bama_Ed we may come back to TN through Birmingham to avoid Atlanta on Sunday after Thanksgiving how is that route?

Yensid,

I would recommend going through Alabama. I quit going the Atlanta route anymore. The interstate (I-20) is VERY hilly between Birmingham and Talladega and is under major reconstruction/widening. It's white knuckle driving in some places.

From Birmingham, the Atlanta route is all interstate, about 20 miles longer, and quickest time-wise via MapQuest. However, you have the rush hour periods and between Macon and I-275 South/Atlanta Airport traffic is always heavy. Holiday times are busy of course in Hot-Lanta. It's often backed up just south of the I-675 turn-off headed north.

I go I-75 to I-10. The I-10/75 interchange is mile marker 296 on I-10. Go west on I-10 past Tallahasse to the Highway 231 exit 130 (so that's 166 miles on I-10). Follow 231 north to the Dothan ring highway (just keep following the 231 signs. some stoplights through here). From Dothan to my house is 3hr 45min road time. Come up into Montgomery and take the Southern Bypass (Hwy 82 West) to I-65 and proceed north.

All told towing this route is 10.5 hours from the Fort to Birmingham with my pup counting gas stops and to-go meals. I leave out of the Fort by Coronado Springs via the Western Way to Hwy 429 to get to the turnpike. Very low stress route. That being said, last March we got snagged on I-10 west of Tallahassee in some traffic, made a u-turn (with the pup), got to an exit, backroaded it to Hwy 231. Only time that's ever happened.

Have a great time!

Bama ED

PS-what loop are you in?

Got a preimum site last minute cancellation for Friday and Saturday night. Hubby is throwing a fit about all the Christmas decorations I want to bring, looks like I'll have scale down this year. :(

See ya there...look for my Mickey Light Pole and Disbaord sign. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yensid and other Thanksgiving DISsers,

Looked at the Orlando weather forecast today. Chance of rain and warm tomorrow (80F), then Thurs-Sun will be very pleasant (70's high and 50's low).

Enjoy! :surfweb:

Okay, I am trying this again. I worked on it last night late while everyone else was asleep but it froze on me when trying to link the pictures.

Thanks Frank and Bama_Ed for the replies. Frank and Denise, I am sorry I haven't done as well at posting as you have. The kids keep us running. We did eat at Wolfgang Pucks Express tonight and the salmon I had was excellent.

We went to MK until 3am on Sunday, that was a mistake because the kids were a bear the next day. However the Fort pool relaxed them middle of the day. Haven't seen other diser's really, other than sighting of a former Diser, TCD. Saw him and his daughters getting off the boat with us early in the morning coming back from MK.

The Fort was packed Saturday when we arrived, and it cleared out on Sunday and has been slowly building up. We didn't get a cart so we haven't really looped but did drive around when coming back last night. There are several full blown Christmas decorated sites. We plan on driving around tomorrow night.

The weather has been great, just some minor brief showers on Monday and as Bama Ed noted we may get some scattered T'storms tomorrow 30% chance. I will post some pictures after my wife and I get back from walking the loop. Hope you are all well and looking forward to a great Thanksgiving.

Just a few quick pictures. I will be on the hunt for better ones.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Fort. Many open spots in 2000 loop. Very surprised. I have not seen any grren ears yet but did have someone leave us a note with a railroad spike that said you have been spiked with mickey ears and a P inside the circle. Anyone heard of that before?

Posting with a phone is tough. I will post again soon.
