Day 2
Sunday prior to Thanksgiving
Destination: Magic Kingdom

Our goal for day 2 was to be up early to take advantage of the Extra Magic Hour at the Magic Kingdom. Mission (kind of) accomplished.

Our room at the WL was located just to the right of the otter pond. Of course, the two otters were out cavorting in the pond. Honestly, it's like a Wonderful World of Disney nature show. Everyone is enthralled and hanging out on the balcony and Mom, consummate planner, is hyperventilating because we are not out the door yet.

Finally we board a boat and head to the MK. Arrival finds characters everywhere! What a sight!!! Very cool and immediately we are all in that Disney spirit. Even Grumpy aka Dad. Characters lined the outside wall of the entrance along the train station. Characters were everywhere inside on the beginning of Main Street - in the park area and on the immediate sidewalks. With so many characters available, you could conceivably be in a line of only 3 or 4 or get really lucky and be first in line! Very, very fun even for my older guys.

Off to check out the park. Sidetracked again when we stop to check out the antique firetruck, one of the Main Street Vehicles. Can we sit in it for pictures we ask politely? Of course. And others stop and follow suit.

Then we take a tip from these Boards and head off to the left to Adventureland. BINGO! We walk onto the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. My husband opts to sit and watch. No waiting and lots of very quick fun. It's fun to be able to lift your carpet above the crowd and look around.

Next stop, Jungle Cruise. We don't want to wait so we fast pass it (first time!) and head to Tikki Room. Not open until 10 a.m.

Head to Pirates and walk right on. Fun, fun, fun and everytime we forget the tiny flume that makes me scream. The gift shop yields an appropriate shell necklace for the teenager and a string of letters for a key chain to make his name for the younger one.

Off to the Tikki Room but first Captain Hook and Smee appear out of nowhere and we stop for pictures and autographs. They are playful and expressive and chase each other around much to the delight of the small crowd. My kids have left the cool factor at home and are enjoying every minute of this.

We walk into the Tikki Room with a sizable but managable crowd. No one but me has seen this show and for me it was back in 1976! Pleasant surprise. It was more than tolerable; it had us cornily rocking in our seats to the different beats. Good show.

Onto to the Jungle Cruise, another first for us. Thank goodness we fast passed it! That line gets really long, really fast and it is indeed a slow loader. We make the first boat that comes along and are on our way. Your driver makes or breaks the show and our was as "hammy" as they come. It made for lots of laughs on this old time, a little bit tired ride. No regrets for my husband, he says since it was a fast pass.

We head toward Frontierland and despite my intentions to skip it, we head to the Country Bear Jamboree Holiday Show. Dad opts to sit this one out. Everyone is kind of dragging due to yesterday's early start to the airport. We waited sometime for the show to start but made friends with an elderly couple who were Sunday regulars at WDW. You generally meet nice people at WDW. The show was a hoot and MUCH, MUCH better than the regular one. Honestly, I could have seen this one twice.

First downer of the day, my youngest is feeling poorly. His stomach hurts. We find Dad after the show and find that the character bears have been harassing him while he waited. So much for relaxing in a rocking chair.

As we walk along toward Tomorrowland, the unthinkable happens. My youngest clutches his stomach and vomits. How did this happen? No inkling. Quick we get someone to clean this up and secure a plastic bag so we can avoid another mess while we exit the park. All I can think is that I have sooooooooooooo looked forward to this family vacation and now, sleeping in such close quarters, we were going to take turns being sick.

We exit to the front of the park via the train with my youngest looking sad and pale. We had a PS for the Kona Cafe for a 12:30 lunch. With only a little bit of encouragement, my husband and older child go off on a lunch adventure of their own. We giggle a little when we see them try the wrong monorail but quickly figure it out. I am pleased to see them together, the teenager and his Dad.

Off we go, back to the WL to get some rest. My sick child is quickly relaxing in bed with non-stop Disney cartoons playing on tv. The front desk refers me to the Whispering Canyon Cafe to beg some ginger ale and saltines. They are delivered pronto to our room and I tip and thank them profusely. "No need" they say, "just part of our job." I was not charged for these items.
Wow, Disney service at its best.

We both snooze a little. My husband and older child return and the younger one rebounds big time. It's off to the pool with my fomerly sick child having a ball. The only guess I can make as to his nausea is the antibiotic he was on for a sinus infection. Too little breakfast might have caused the stomach irritation. There was no sign of any illness for any of us after that. Thank goodness!

We all relaxed and swam despite the cooler than normal temperatures for Florida. The front desk was apologizing for temps in the 60's. It was probably low 70's when we swam.

Dinner at Artist Point was lovely and relaxing. Real food for the kids. My formerly sick son ate chicken breast, green beans and bread and butter with no ill effects. He was starving from missing lunch and I had to really work to make him eat moderate amounts just in case.

We retired to our room, exhausted from our previous day's early travels.

Tomorrow: Day 3 MGM and the Fantasmic Package

Day 2 Highlight: Uncrowded early a.m. adventures at Magic Kingdom
Day 2 Downer: My poor child getting sick at MK
