Here's the scoop.....
My DH has a business trip to Hawaii in November and we decided to go as a family, especially since we had 4-$750 travel vouchers from a previous flight situation (!). Once we realized that we would be changing planes in LA, we quickly changed our plans to include 3 days in LA to visit Mickey at the home place. So, our plans are Indy to O'Hare to LAX. 3 days later, onto Hawaii. 5 days later, back to IND.
We paid $1158/pp for our e-tickets in April. With the vouchers and my DH's ticket covered by his company, it is a sweet deal. I have made it a personal mission to check the website for ticket price changes. Last week, the prices suddenly dropped by $212.15 each. I quickly called the airlines and they are sending the 4 vouchers to me for future travel Yippee!!! I wanted to see Pearl Harbor (the real one, not the movie!) and we will probably use the vouchers for the intra-island flights.
OK, here's the averted disaster...........
The page on the website to check my itinerary has been unavailable for a couple of days, so I called the airlines directly. In checking my ressie, someone had dropped the LAX to Hawaii flight. Dont' know how they wanted us to get there (swim? pixie dust?), but that leg of the journey was gone. They immediately put it back. I was, of course, very nice during this whole conversation. They also told me that the price was back up, close to our original price. That temporary dip in price was quick and I'm glad that I caught it. I am also glad that I had to call the airlines directly and caught the problem early.
So, the moral of this story is two-fold:
1) Regularly check your fares for a drop in price.
2) Check on your actual ressies whenever somebody does anything to your ressie.
