Even though I was more of a lurker than a poster the last few months, I just wanted to thank everybody here at DIS for all the good info. This was our first cruise (we decided to do a land/sea package to have a short cruise to break us in) and we had no clue what to expect. All the good info posted here helped us out a TON and really made things that much more enjoyable. A few tidbits in particular:
-ADVICE TO GET TO THE SHIP EARLY. We ended up renting a car to have a little freedom during the Disney World portion of our vacation and it also allowed us to get to the ship early. If we had waited for when the buses left our resort, we wouldnt have gotten to the ship until roughly 1:30. By 1:30, we had already had lunch on board, explored most of the ship and booked all our reservations. Thus, we got to enjoy most of what would have ordinarily been an abbreviated first day.
-ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO IN NASSAU. We saw a lot of people recommending not to waste your time going to the beaches in Nassau on a 3 day cruise since Castaway Cay would blow it away. So we spent most of that day enjoying the ship.
-WHEN TO BOOK SPA/PALOS RESERVATIONS. Even though we ended up canceling our Palos reservations, it was nice to have our pick of nights and times. We also would have missed out on the following . . . .
-THE SURIAL BATH. I never would have booked this if we hadnt heard about it. All I can say is yowza!! Thanks a lot for that gem. A GREAT idea for couples (and groups of three as they said on the tour?!? Anybody seen/heard that combination yet?)
-WHEN TO BOOK A FLIGHT HOME. We were originally going to fly out around 3:00-4:00 on our return day. But after reading how smoothly debarkation goes, we decided to book an earlier flight just after noon. We would have otherwise spent the day twiddling our thumbs or having too much fun at Disney World again and then probably miss our flight.
There were other tidbits which helped, but I can't remember them all right now. It helped make our trip that much more enjoyable. To see how things turned out, you can check our trip report (entitled "Our Land/Sea Vacation" on the trip report board.) Thanks again for all the good info. I'll always be recommending this board and site to my friends for all vacations involving Disney.
