1) We attended the annual Gala for The Sunshine Foundation, Saturday, 10/24/2015.
. . . like Make-A-Wish & Give-Kids-The-World, but life-long illness, not just life-threatening illness.
. . . there are many other corporate sponsors, but this was the first year for Disney to donate
. . . past and current theme parks include Sea World, Universal
. . . over 83% of the Gala funds raised go directly to the kids
. . . an astoundingly high percentage
2) Disney supplied
. . . some table gifts
. . . some auction items
. . . some post-party giveaways (such as a very elaborate Tinkerbelle picture frame)
. . . some much needed cash
. . . over a dozen costumed Star Wars Characters
3) The characters included
. . . Storm Troopers
. . . Bounty Hunters
. . . Rebels
. . . Jedi
. . . Citizens
. . . Darth Vader
4) VERY COOL
5) And, VERY APPRECIATED by the 2,500+ guests who attended at "B Resort" (at $1,500 per table).
. . . B Resort is on Hotel Plaza Blvd, leading to Downtown Disney (aka, Disney Springs)
. . . very well done for a resort hotel !
. . . not your typical "charity Rubber Chicken" dinner
. . . besides being delicious and cooked properly, the food was more than the wife and I could eat
.
THANKS DISNEY !
.

NOTE: My only disappointment was that I was taller than Vader.

Great to hear how Disney gives back. So cool they had all those Star Wars characters. Also thanks for bringing awareness to a different organization. I've never heard of The Sunshine Foundation but am going to go look it up after reading this and see how I can work it into my yearly charity activities.

1) They are a fraction of the size of Make-A-Wish and Give-Kids-The-World.
2) But, have several locations.
3) The nice thing is that life-threatening" is not a requirement.
4) Many folks with life-long-illnesses need some sunshine.
5) Just another reason to donate some of my time.

Just saw they are an amazon smile charity! I will switch my amazon smile charity over to them. I like to give to smaller places as the big organizations don't seem to have a problem getting money.

1) They will appreciate it, greatly.
2) I volunteer at Make-A-Wish, Give-Kids-The-World and Sunshine.
3) All are great charities.
4) But, like the old AVIS commercials, since the are smaller, they do try harder.

i was the grateful receiver of a make a wish when I was younger it's so great to see there are organizations for people with health issues even though they're not life ending! Great to see Disney spreading the magic :D

I have a nephew who visited WDW with Make-A-Wish before he passed, so I wholeheartedly thank Disney for their support of this.

RustyScupper, as to your comparison with Darth Vader, we've always known you have a promising future with the Dark Side.

Very nice! Always feels good to hear about the better side of people. The news force feeds us more than enough of the other side.

Good to also read kudos for B Resort. We stayed there this past summer and were extremely pleased with our accomodations and service.

Glad to hear of their support of these charities.

Just out of curiousity, are you sure it was -Disney- who supplied the characters, and not groups like the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion, who work directly with LFL (and now Disney) for these sorts of appearances, and are 100% volunteers?

Disney isn't a heartless corporation as some people say it is.
Who says Disney is heartless?

1) Maybe.
2) But, cynically, are they giving away to be kind or for Public Relations.
3) I would not venture a guess.
.
NOTE: Prior to retirement, my company gave charitable contributions. We did it to benefit the community and advance activities of our employees. This even included allowing employees to volunteer during work hours and get full pay while they volunteered. At no time did we EVER announce what or how much we gave.

I figured - I am a member of the 501st (and the Rebel Legion). We do these sorts of things regularly - the costumes you saw were made by the members wearing them (or bought from other members). It's 100% volunteer, and we never get paid for our appearances, or reimbursed for the expense of our costumes (and they can be high - the Vader's are usually in the 5000$ range!).

I'm so glad that the OP enjoyed having us at their gala!
