I am a little hesitant to post this as some of you thought my intentions here weren't honourable in a couple of past posts (they really are!), but I wanted to thank you for helping me realize that I have overanalyzed & overresearched my scrapping! I talked with my DH last night as I was very upset with several responses directed to my posts, so we read some of them over again, & in certain respects I can see how some of you may have been suspect as I have been approaching the whole safety thing in a very convoluted & confusing way. I will try and explain:
Since I have just started scrapping, I thought that I had to watch everything that I put into my books (I am an overly cautious person, so this made sense to me until I realized what a huge deal that is!) - pens, adhesives, paper, etc... More specifically, I now understand that I have to watch this stuff in order to protect my photos - only if this is important to me. I have been taking it to the extreme in that I've done so much research that I convinced myelf that I had to be careful with everything - watch the pens as my journalling may fade one day, watch the adhesives as stuff may fall off of the page, watch page protectors as they may harm pages.... Yikes! I understand that some of that may be for selling purposes (they want you to buy all of their products right?) or some of these folks may be overly cautious like me (ha, ha!), so it's then up to me to put all of this together and find a style that works for me!
I have come to realize that by doing it my old way, there is just too much stuff to worry about, and that is why I have been thoroughly confused about rubber stamping, embellishments, adhesives, acid free, etc... It really clicked for me last night when nicurn asked me if I was so concerned, then why don't I keep my photos in albums! What a great question! I totally missed it until my DH and I reread things, and we both looked at each other and said, "That's it!" What's the point of me scrapping if I'm only putting photos on the pages? I had been approaching things all wrong as technically, this is the only way to ensure that my photos are safe, but for me, this way is not nearly as much fun as scrapping, so that is why I like scrapping so much!
I hope that you all realize how sincere I am, as I have been accused my whole life of being overly cautious, and it finally has come back to haunt me! I didn't mean for my questions to reflect back on your styles at all - my intent was not to judge anyone here at all. I really am enjoying all of the knowledge that you all have to share, and again I want to thank you for helping me to see my scrapping in a new style that will definitely be a better fit for me - it's much less stressful & fun not having to worry about every little thing that I may want to include in my books. Our products here are a bit limited compared to all of the cool stuff I see you all talking about (we just had another LSS close recently & our Michael's store is ok, it's always packed & I really think most of their stuff is overpriced), but I am making my way out to a few other LSS which have some wonderful products, and combining these with CM products & awesome Disney products that I like - and this I think is a style that is going to work well for me!
Thanks again. Happy scrappin! Tiger
