I had to say thanks to the posters on here for the tips on buying butterbeer in the Hogs pub vs the outside vendor. My family visited this past Wed. and the line of folks on both sides of the butterbeer vendor cart were easily 20 , both sides! Hubby commented, geez you want to wait that long? I smiled and pointed at the pub where we walked into cool air and only 2 people inline for service. I smiled and whispered, this is why I spend so much time reading before going on vacation. And I love frozen butterbeer the best ;) Thanks again for the tips, really made our trip so much more enjoyable!

Isn't the Hogs Head so much better?! I couldn't believe how many people stand outside and no one realizes you can get butterbeer inside a few feet away!

We always buy from the Hogs Head too. Last time we were there, in October, though there was only one guy working the bar and the girl at the front bought one Butterbeer and wanted to pay with a credit card but it wouldn't work so her boyfriend tried and his wouldn't work either. A manager or supervisor (or somebody who was obviously in charge) came by, shouted at the poor guy behind the bar for letting a line build up but didn't even offer any assistance. It was still probably quicker than getting it from the cart though.

I will have to add this to my list of tips. We will be going to IOA for the 1st time in Aug. I'm pretty sure we'll want to pop into the pub for a Butterbeer rather than wait in the heat at the outside cart.:thumbsup2

Occasionally, we'll catch the cart with 20 lined up on one side and only a few on the other side. Figure that one out.

I agree that the pub is best though. Then you can hopefully find a place to sit on the back patio where it's so much quieter.

I always go inside the pub. Not only is the line shorter, but they will also honor the 10% AP discount, whereas the cart outside can't. Not much, but every little bit helps.:rotfl: I too like the frozen better than the nonfrozen.

We must be the only ones on the planet who prefer the non-frozen butter beer! Though DD had warned me she liked the regular best, I kept thinking of all the posts that the frozen is better and bought a frozen - not my cup of tea.

We were there during non-peak season, so the carts were never backed up, but we continued to go inside due to the AP discount. One day, it backfired and we were in line for about 10 minutes, about 8 customers and only 1 person waiting on them.:headache:

We went into the Hogs Head for our butterbeer too, but one time we had the same situation as above--one server and a really long line. It didn't help that several of the people in front of us wanted multiple different drinks. I felt bad for the server, she was going as fast as she could. Still the lines outside were even longer. When we first walked in and saw the line I thought to myself "Well I guess all these people are reading the Dis too!"

What IS Butterbeer?

Butterbeer

Butterbeer is the drink of choice for younger wizards. Harry is first presented with the beverage in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Although House-elves can become intoxicated on Butterbeer, the amount of alcohol contained in Butterbeer has a negligible effect on Witches and Wizards. J.K. Rowling said in her interview to Bon Appétit magazine that she imagines it "to taste a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch." Butterbeer can be served cold or hot but either way it has a warming effect.

It was announced in April 2010 that a drink named after butterbeer is sold in the theme park The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. It has a sweet taste and is a non-alcoholic beverage. It was taste-tested by J. K. Rowling herself. According to Neil Genzlinger, a staff editor on the culture desk of The New York Times, the beverage "is indistinguishable from a good quality cream soda."[33]

In IOA it comes frozen (like a slushie) or non frozen (served over ice). Personally I think the frozen is 1000 times better than the nonfrozen. It has a thick foamy topping that stays until the very end. It tastes like a cross between cream soda and maybe a little butterscotch (to me at least).

I don't recall the non-frozen butterbeer being served over ice. It is just a cream soda-ish drink with a yummy butterscotchy topping.

Oops, you're right. I get the frozen version every single trip. I didn't care for the nonfrozen version, so have only had it once.
