I took a 6 month challenge to shave down my grocery bill. I have to say it was a BIG SUCCESS! I saved $404 using coupons and $714 by buying what is on sale for a total of $1118 savings. My average weekly grocery bill for a family of 5 was $85. My typical bill previously was $115 when I bought whatever I wanted regardless of sale or coupon.

Now I plan out a weekly menu based on what is on sale and what I have coupons for (I also go when the store has up to 5 coupons will be doubled). It can be time consuming but the savings has made up for it. Thanks everyone for all of your tips

WOOHOO WTG! Its really great that you posted your average wekly total before coupons and after, because thats the real savings. Now you have an extra $30 a WEEK!

Do you shop at Pick N Save? I go there on Wednesdays to double 5 coupons too. I got a great deal on GM cereal last week.

That is so awesome. $30 a week is $1560 a year. For those that think coupons are not worth the .50 or the .75, it adds up!

it does add up...last week one of my bills was $91 and it came down to $38 and the other was $211 and came down to $104...that was with lots of stocking up. I'll be doing more this week as well...free rice...free noodles...free tuna..super cheap pasta sauce. I stock up when I can get it cheap and don't buy it when I can't.

I actually go to Copps, but they are really one in the same. I also go on Wednesdays. I wish they would allow more than 5 though. I got some really great deals on the Quaker brand last week.
