Just want to say THANKS BUDGET BOARD peeps for always being there with helpful and interesting info! You guys are the best! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

And another question for y'all :)

So I had an issue with my McAfee protection (ugh, that's another post!) and since then, when I log on, it says 'Welcome to Cox Business Services'.... and then my home page opens. I haven't subscribed to it, nor is it our server. In fact, when I googled them, they're not even available in our zip code??!! Is it another type of virus?

TIA for your feedback!! :goodvibes

Sound a lot like a virus. Have you googled the problem not just the web page that opens, to see if there is a solution?

if you have access to another computer, google your exact issue, sounds like a virus.... or take it to a reputable repair place..... I have had mine cleaned once or twice for this reason,

The first thing I do when I get a new computer is uninstall McAfee. It causes more problems than it solves.

Uninstall McAfee and get something better like AVG free.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

McAfee was included with my laptop when I got it, and I recently renewed the subscription :sad2:

"Cox Business Solutions" IS a real server, but we don't have it in our zip code, which is why it's odd. I really didn't think it could be a virus if was a true company, but I guess it could be?

Ahh.... It is always something, ugh

According to our IT guy McAfee is one of the lower rated virus protection systems.

Your IT guy is right about it McAfee had its fame but now i think Avast and Eset are in the play. I myself use Eset Nod32 6.0 which i have just bought couple of days earlier on 25% off. My friend who is working as IT administrator in a construction company suggest me that i should buy it using Eset promotional coupon which really helped me great time.

Did you use the computer on public wifi somewhere?

Have you tried to uninstall it?

I would go to TASK MANAGER and see if I could find it running. Then Google the NAME. Most problematic programs, viruses etc. will have search results showing what it is, how serious, and how to get rid of it.

If you need to download new antivirus software do it from a reputable site like CNET.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply.

I tried to find it but its only on my desk top. It say it's deleting anything I try to download "because its a virus." Apparently it really isn't ...
Here's the description of it from BING:

Warning, I'm not an expert. But I usually find a way to work around these things.

If this "thing" is preventing you from using your antivirus and/or preventing you from installing new antivirus, you might want to reboot into safe mode with networking if possible. Disable the MacAfee and use CNET to download something different. I like VIPRE they should have a free trial. But CNET will give you several to choose from. Just make sure you don't click on the ones that are ads (hard to tell sometimes if you aren't looking for that light grey "ad" or "advertisement".

If that works, run a scan, run two. I would run until I had two clean scans in a row.

If it doesn't work, from Safe Mode (if possible) to Microsoft website and look for help. There is a company (affiliated with MS) that will help you remove the virus. They can even do it for you "remotely". Do it when you have time, because it can take some time.

I think it's called SAFTEY LIFE dot com

It's been a long time since I used them. They saved my computer from a major viral crash and it was FREE. At the end, they ask you to sign up for a paid service but it wasn't required. I didn't pay anything. I don't know if it still works the same.

Good luck

One other thing, simpler than all the above would be to try to restore to a previous date. Usually if you have a virus that's affecting your antivirus it will prevent restore too. But worth a shot.

Thought of that but since we recently re-subscribed to Mcaffee, we'd lose that, wouldn't we?
