Hi I'm Tracey and I'm brand new here, although I've been lurking for awhile. I stumbled onto running when my son ran his first 5k 2 years ago. To encourage him, I said "If you win, I'll run a 5k" well wouldn't you know it---that stinker came in first in his age group. I've never been an athlete, although I was a pom-pom girl. When we had to run the mile in 7th grade, I cried. How was I ever going to run a 5k? Luckily, I was 8 months pregnant at the time and used that to put it off for 15 months
. Last year I told my son that I was still planning to run a 5k---he said, "It's ok mom, you don't have to" at which time I realized he didn't think I could. The challenge was on. I found y'all which led me to C25K. An injury sidetracked my Nov. 5K, but we're ready to go for April. And......I just sent in my application for the 1/2 in 2009. I am so thankful to all of you, because through your stories and encouragement for one another----I know I can do this. You are touching so many lives outside of this community. I'm glad I've decided to jump on it---now please assure me that the slightly sick, nervous feeling I have upon sending in that application will go away.

... 2009 is my first one as well and it took about 2 days of hanging around on here for it to go away.
I always liked to walk, but started with the C25K at the end of July and it was a great program. I felt myself getting stronger everyday. Some days were harder than others. The first time I had to run the 2 miles---I remember thinking "no way" and when I did it---I raised my hands in victory. You will be able to do the ToT13k in October. I could do it now. You have plenty of time. I found comfort in knowing that I could walk if I needed to. We're hoping to do the 13k(it's going to depend on transportation being provided) and I've signed up for the 1/2 in Jan. You can do it and happy running.
