Mom & I were scheduled to fly home to San Antonio from LAX on Sept 12th. Knowing that flights may take days, at best, I called National Car Rental. We had a rental car we picked up at LAX on Sept 4th. I asked what the charge would be to keep the car and return it at San Antonio airport 2 days late. She said that due to the emergency situation, I would only be charged the extra day rate on my existing ressie, and National was waving all drop-off fees.

We drove home and arrived safely last night. I had the car a total of 10 days, and dropped it off 1300 miles from where I picked it up for $184 total. After hearing what some smaller companies companies were charging folks, I was happy to see National respond in such a positive way. I understand that Hertz, Avis and Alamo also waived drop-off fees. What a headache it will be for them to get the cars back where they belong.

Shame on those companies that took advantage of this tragedy to make a profit.
