My mom passed away 2 weeks ago and my dad and I are trying to get the thank-you cards done. There were many food donations from immediate family as well as other family and friends. My question is...is is ok to send a thank-you card to the immediate family (my mom's sister in law) She had been very close to my mom, and helped us out in so many ways. Do you think it is ok?

First, I'm sorry for your loss.

Absolutely. Maybe if you want you can buy a special thank you card and write a nice message in it.

So sorry for your loss! Usually VERY CLOSE family members don't expect to be thanked under such circumstances, but it's never poor manners to thank anyone for their kindness.

I also agree, it is great to send a thank-you card. She probably considers herself among the close family whose thanks goes out to everyone who has been so kind. I think a personal note from you would be lovely.

When my MIL passed away two years ago, my 12 year old neice wrote a beautiful poem to read at the service. She also supported her mother by going to the funeral home with her and being a general helper. Although she was part of the family, I sent her a special thank you note, expressing my gratitude and how impressed I was with her and what a lovely lady she was growing up to be.
