Under the heading of Too Good To Be True...

Found Rebel XT body for $500 new, and the Canon 28-135...IS/USM lens for $374 on expresscameras.com.Far cheaper than anyone else. (don't forget available canon rebate).

But then researched the merchant on resellerratings.com - HORRIBLE reviews, I'm leary...

Anyone else have experience buying from these guys? :confused3

You really don't need to ask us, do you?

Logically, there's one of two options that are possible:

A) All of those horrible reviews are wrong and were written by a bunch of malcontents, and all of the other vendors you've seen are trying to rip you off for around $200 (or this vendor somehow is able to acquire the cameras for a lot less than even the major players in the photo retail world).

B) The 296 reviews are correct and these guys are one of the outfits that'll
"sell" you the camera for real cheap, but it will be on backorder until you agree to buy, at outrageous prices, "accessories" that the camera maker says are normally included with the camera (like the lens cap, instruction manual, battery, charger, etc.).

BTW, Here's a picture of "ExpressCameras" (AKA "Photo King", "Jack's Express"):

Would you give your CC# to these people???

Nope, not really Geoff, guess I was just venting and also raising a red flag for anyone else looking at pricing on the internet.

I was pretty bummed (b/c I got so excited when I saw the prices), BUT am very glad I used some common sense and checked them out before hitting the "Buy" button! ::yes::

Yeah, if something looks too good to be true, it usually is. I'm in the market for a Canon 30D, which I'll be buying within the next month or 2. I stumbled across a deal at "Babel Computers" for $900 (go ahead and Google "Babel Computers").

$900 for a 30D???
Honestly, I'd rather spend the extra $300 for the peace of mind.

PoohJen,
Check DPReview's Canon 300/350 forum, there was a thread and 'how to' not too long ago about Dell selling body only for $604, after Canon rebate is $504. I got my XT with Kit lens from Dell for $684 before rebate.

That's a great deal, Sue! I had checked Dell (and just re-checked); they're nowhere close now ($800 body only less rebate); but I'll keep my eyes peeled! :thumbsup2

Definately too good to be true. If you want to check out a retail establishment, try www.resellers.com to see what people are saying about them. I've heard about
Express Cameras in the past, and they did not rate well.

oops, the correct URL is resellerratings.com

I just checked express cameras and their satisfaction rating is 0.81. Typical rating is in the 6.0 range. Sounds like a spot to avoid at all costs.
