Texas to open 100%

Agreed. So many people manipulated. Just wear your mask when within the plausible range for an airborne virus to be transmitted. And the others that are manipulated into believing it is not easily transmitted. You make a very good point. I’m with you.

Who is manipulating people into believing it's not easily transmitted?

Actually, mandatory mask requirements in public spaces do constrict individual rights. Totally understand them in private spaces, and am happy to comply (or not enter) however, if one is to be forced to wear a mask in a public space for “health“ reasons, perhaps one should also be forced to exercise regularly, not eat fatty foods, and take appropriate vitamin regimens as well.

while we’re at it, prohibit smoking in public, spitting, talking loudly, wearing offensive cologne/perfume, and/or wearing mismatched clothing, which can also offend the senses.
I was going to mention smoking and you did it for me! I hate the smell, makes me cough, and it's bad for everyone, yet we haven't stopped selling cigarettes. We know it damages everyone's lungs and literally causes a decline in health, but it is still up to the individual to decide even though second-hand smoke is just as damaging.

And here I was thinking this was common in every other state. Lol This is a part of our childhood here in Texas.
I don't even think they pledge to the Stars and Stripes anymore here in Pa. I did K-12 in 1977-1990 but I don't think my kids ever have.

You really never know. I went for some walks this winter when it was quite cold out. First time I was like, I'm pretty warm but I wish there was something I could do for my face. LOL. I went home and made a nice soft flannel face mask for my next cold weather walk.
We have been through 4 complete seasons with this pandemic. Yeah, I very much doubt in the middle of summer in 90° heat and 95% humidity people were wearing masks completely by themselves because their face was cold.

What an odd response and completely off topic considering the poster was talking about winter and you're throwing in summer. For reals.

If you follow further than just why she was covering her face, it was a response to someone commenting in general on people wearing masks by themselves and in cars and that has been going on for 50 weeks now, 2 weeks short of a full year? She said "You never know..." As I said, I highly doubt people were wearing their masks because it was cold throughout an entire year through 4 season.

I followed what was going on. The poster she was quoting was talking about seeing someone walking alone (as one of their examples) wearing a mask. She responded about her winter walk and how a mask kept her warm which made her make a flannel mask. It's abundantly clear that was to explain a reason why she would be wearing a mask on a walk..alone.

I'll sometimes do that when bouncing between stores or work sites. It has nothing to do with protection, just too lazy to take something off that I'm going to need to put back on in 2 minutes.

My concern for what other drivers think of my attire is pretty low but I appreciate you guys noticing.

As noted, the Constitution has constantly adapted to progressions in culture/technology. We now live in a country where I can cross multiple state lines in a couple hours via car or the entire country in a couple hours via plane so individual states having very different regulations doesn't make as much sense as it did 230 years ago.

When we face a nationwide threat, I very much feel it's within the Federal Government's jurisdiction to put regulations in place to mitigate it.

So I am just wondering how you would like to enforce border patrol. Many people live in one state and work in another. My son would be an example. He needs to cross a state border everyday. We are 50 states and not 50 countries. We are not Europe and therefore do not have border crossings. This is why the Constitution was written. The preamble is a very important part of it - "We the people in order to form a more perfect union... " The Article of Confederation was a hot a mess because it allowed states to act more like individual countries. You seem to want each state to act like its own country. We have an interstate highway system that in theory you could put up border restrictions if the Federal government wanted but I can't see that happening.

The right to travel within and among the several States is a fundamental Constitutional right. A well established one. Any infringement on that right is held to the strictest scrutiny By the Courts (well, theoretically, it is). What we are witnessing is a mass hysteria the likes of which I truly hope we never again see in our lifetimes.

All I'm saying is that the Federal Government should have more power to put regulations in place due to ease of travel. Nothing about making inter-state travel more difficult.

When I see people walking in public, alone, wearing masks, without a person within at least 1,000 feet of them, or wearing a mask, alone in their car, I now know that the human mind can be easily manipulated.
I have been guilty of wearing a mask while in my car. I don't see the point of taking it off for the two minutes I'm going to be in the car between stops.

No, just about every state counts on the obscenely high taxes on tobacco to fund their governments.

Oh I agree about the taxes - that's why just going by what "the government" says should be taken with a grain of salt. Money and lobbyists and so many other factors come into these decisions. It's not just for our safety. That's probably one of the last on our list.

I just laugh to myself because this thread is so crazy with people getting so worked up. I get it. We are so divided as a country. Unfortunately, I am a jaded person, so I don't believe much of what the politicians or bureaucrats tell us. That includes decisions made during this awful pandemic.

I think everyone has this bias because elected officials have so many people to please. You never know if the opinion they're stating is being influenced by financial interests or whatever.

I've pretty much ignored what the politicians are saying and tried to listen to the scientists actually doing the research. This is a mixed bag as well because science is ever evolving but at least their motives are more pure.

I don’t think anyone is “worked up” here. It’s just that our collective actual opinions have been and are being muzzled everywhere you look.

Not wanting to wear a cloth face mask in public spaces is not, has never been, nor should it ever be, considered to be some sort of fringe position. How it became that in less than a year is puzzling and frightening.
