Just wondering if anyone out there would share their thoughts. We are considering relocating and Texas is one option. We currently live in Maryland and it has become a little too expensive. We would like to relocate to a warmer climate, but not Florida. I certainly don't want to make a move that would make our lives more difficult, from a social/ political standpoint either. Thank you!

Texas is a really, really BIG state. Any thoughts on WHERE in TX? ;)

Several of us on this forum are in Dallas, a couple in Houston.

My apologies, Texas is an gigantic state, i should have been more specific. We visited Austin in July and just loved it, so we would probably focus on that vicinity. Thanks.

I have heard nothing but good things about Austin. Having said that, I have never actually been to Austin.

TX laws are not equality based, but I have LOTS of gay & lesbian friends who seem to do OK here. (I'm straight, but I do try to pay attention.)

If you're thinking of Austin, then yes, it's a wonderful city. Has that college town feel, great restaurants, great shopping. Lots of nature type things to do with the natural springs, beautiful parks, hiking. I have quite a few friends who live there and love it. Weather is great, with almost good weather year around. Winters here are typically mild, with maybe a snow or ice day thrown in to keep you on your toes. :)

I always said if we had to move from Dallas to anywhere else in Texas, it would be Austin.

Have to agree with JSG and Mr. Z.....

Austin is a great place to live (I live in Dallas)....and as JSG mentioned, Texas isn't as progressive as other states, but we manage...

Austin has great live music too....tons to do, etc...

Good luck deciding.

My SO and I both live in Austin. We love it! We were both born and raised in San Antonio which is about 90 miles south. Moved up here in 2003 and I can never see myself moving back.

Like people have stated before, our weather is nice. It can get humid but definitely not as humid as Houston or Orlando, FL. Today for instance is very beautiful. We had a "cold front" blow through last night and it has only gotten up to 95 today! Considering it was a record breaking 107 a few days ago, this is a nice break! It doesn't get "cold" here until about December/January and even then it is maybe 45 degrees. Sometimes we even get ice and it shuts the whole city down.

Austin is a very liberal city. Grab lunch at Shady Grove and you can see gay/lesbian couples holding hands and nobody takes a second look. Same with walking downtown.

We have a great medical district, live music scene, and outdoor areas to hike and bike. A famous nude beach on the lake called Hippie Hollow which gets crazy during Splash weekend.

You Sir should run for Mayor. I'm ready to move now:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

My friend was telling me the other day that his 5 year plan is to move to Austin, so it must be nice. Otherwise he would just stay here! :rotfl2:
