Test video for the images being projected on Cinderella Castle. Blech.

Man I WISH I could go to Disney next year. Sounds like the lines will be short. I certainly haven't had any Kool-Aid to drink, but I just don't find this promo t be the horrifying disappointment that everyone else is whining about. Is it the greatest thing ever? No. But it's cute, and it's harmless and it's short.

Frankly, I am surprised at the negative reaction to it (and I bet Disney is too). Maybe they'll take to heart all the complaining and change their plan. Then again, NOTHING Disney ever does makes everyone happy. We had folks moaning about YOAMD too. Disney was giving away so much stuff and all people could complain about is "but I didn't get anything". The company just can't win.

Maybe I'm just easy to please.

People should just be happy they are in a position to be able to go to Disney (or anywhere) at all.

I get that its meant to be a show
but what are they going to do with that big white screen over the balcony during the day...it looks like a sheet when the projection is off:confused3

will they be streaming pics all day long?

If they're smart they won't...not with the way folks have been reacting to the news. I would hope they would roll the screen up during the day and let it out for just the show at night.

I relaly do not understand why you are so touchy about this:confused3
I never said I was ungrateful to be in a position to travel OR that i was upset with Disney. I simply said that I, personally, do not like their new gimmick and therefor will vacation elsewhere. If you like it GREAT. Go for it. GO to Disney, if it is in your budget. I did not say you had had kool-aide to drink nor do i care if others want to go. For goodness sake we went A LOT at one point in our lives. If the marketing turns back towards us again we will go A LOT again some day. For now, other places appeal to us more than the Disney with the turn it is taking. WHy do you have an issue with my saying that?:confused3 It is not like I said anyone who goes this year or who does not hate the new castle/photo thing is an idiot or something. I did not say it, nor did I think it. I just think it means some people have different tastes than I do.
Am I only allowed to express positive opinions about WDW here?:confused3 When did THAT rule go into effect?

It's no worse than that monstrosity of a pink birthday cake. I wasn't a fan of that either - BUT - it's sort of cool to be able to see the different variations, just so you can say you did.

I think they are about equally tacky (and I did not go THAT year either:rotfl2:).

You know how when you go to a party and someone is taking tons of pictures, then they share the ones *they* think are cute? And there's always at least one shot of you that would never have seen the light of day if it were up to you? That's what I'm imagining will happen here. I'll be settling in for fireworks and my photo will flash up on the castle and I'll have 17 chins and crazy eyes. Could happen.

Express what ever you like...and I will express my opinion as well. :thumbsup2

I think it's lovely and will make a great show each night. It will be shown for a brief period each night, so no worries about the integrity of the castle being compromised.

I llike it too. If you don't like it, noone is forcing you to watch.

Okay:goodvibes It just struck me that you kept expressing an opinion om MY opinion (and on how i should feel about my ability to travel at all) so I felt I had to explain it. If you had just had an opinion on the new promotion and not on my reaction to it I would have never felt a need to respond directly to you:dance3:

LOL, I'm avoiding all Photopass people for the year. I don't want my overbite smile shining up on the castle. ;) LOL.

Out of all the Disney fans on this site (in all of the forums) I don't think I've come across one person that loves it. :rotfl:

Well, now you have. I liked it a lot. I'd have to see it in person to decide if I love it. ;)

I don't really understand all the angst. If someone is dead set against it, couldn't you just go on a ride or hit the restroom during that short show? I'm not a big fan of the afternoon parades so we do other stuff during that time and, hey, the lines are shorter then.

I admit that as a huge announcement, it was fairly underwhelming but it's not the end of the castle as we know it.

i dont really care for it, though the tinkerbell was kinda cool, but there are so many other things i like looking at so this little projection show wont bother me in the least.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened the video, but after watching it I have to say I like it. If you don't like it, just look up at the fireworks.

Agreed. I kinda like it.

For those that don't like it, consider this: They could have turned the castle into a huge, pink birthday cake.

I forgot just....how....bad....that looked. LOLOLOL.

I think anything they really do to the castle takes away from it (aside from the Christmas lights).

Jumbo Trons are for sports and concerts...not Cinderella's castle. Sort of cheapens it to roadside advertsing to me( no offense to any poeple whos images are being shown, but you know what I mean)...and that will probably be next.

I liked the birthday cake castle cause that is the first time I ever saw it in person.
I will just resent the screen thing as that will be one more thing I don't get picked for. :rotfl:

It wasn't terrible. It just seems that they need to integrate the photos better.

Thanks for posting that:thumbsup2 It makes my travel decision for the kids' June break much easier. We have been debating between WDW (spending a lot on airfare to the US) or a Baltic cruise. Needing something to sway us one way or the other we might as well use the castle being tacky as all get out next year as a reason to go with the cruise and save WDW for some other time.
I am truly glad some of you like it and will enjoy it--it is definitely not for me though:eek:
I sort of think it's neat. I love how they get Tinkerbelle in there and I'm betting that this is merely a test run to try it out and see what kind of response they get before settling on a permanent solution for the next year or so. Not bad thinking considering the feedback so far.

Well I assume this comment is aimed at me with the Baltic cruise mention:rolleyes:--I think I made it PLENTY clear that we were already debating between the two and this will just give me what I need to know to make a decision.

And, YES, I am in fact blaming my fail to return to Disney this year on this (and the accompanying campaign). Turning the castle into something akin to a tacky billboard for even 10-15 minutes every nigh (and as the BIG new thing for the year) and using "free" videos they find on youtube (as the poster here whose video is being used let us know she is getting only a lithograph for the permission to use it) lets me know that Disney is NOT interested in marketing to MY demographic right now (and no I do not really know what that is, but I know tacky bill board looks and not being willing to pay for your advertising is NOT it)--which probably means I will find many of the things in the parks lacking next year.

For many years I was WDW's target audience and I loved it. I felt totally at home there. I loved everything about the place. I even loved there ads and they resonated with me (I have a little souvinear myself lol). Those ads feel like other people's memories (probably because they ARE) but for years the ads felt like MINE being relived all over again.

The last trip things were not as much to MY tastes. Stuff felt "off," and while I enjoyed it, I enjoyed it less so. I feel, based on this footage confirming to me that the new promotion is as tacky as I thought it would be, that I am not currently the target audience for WDW and will likely find many other small things that will not appeal to me if I were to visit this year. So, I will take my vacation dollars elsewhere until they are targeting me again (if ever).
As I age I've had to learn one hard lesson: while my demographic may have money, obviously my demographic isn't the one with the most money right now otherwise they'd be courting me.

It's a humbling lesson, but one that must be learned by us all.

I can't force a company to market to just 40-something married women. When I was in my 30's, Disney was marketing to 30-somethings who had expendable income. I'll have to be happy with that and let my own feelings make the decision as to whether I'll be returning to WDW instead of waiting for WDW to try to 'entice' me anywhere with postcards, discounts and red carpets.

:lmao: at the idea of being humbled by not being WDW's target audience:lmao: Thanks for the laugh--seriously (not snarky:flower3:).
What did I say that makes you think I am in ANY way trying to "force" WDW (or any place/company) to market to me (oh, and i ma still a few years from 40--though I do not think it is my age that makes me not the target at the moment:rolleyes:). All I said was I do not like it, I think it is tacky, so I am going to do something I will like better (which happens to market to ME--meaning my personality not my age; I am pretty sure if you asked Celebrity cruises who their target age range is for MEd and Baltic cruises it is not mid 30s with tween and teen children:rolleyes1--but their product and advertising appeals to me and mine right at the moment, as does DCL by the way, but WDW's no longer does).
Actually, I think I am very quite easy to please. I vacation LOTS of places. I do not need Disney to make me happy (though I have enjoyed it in the past) and I do not compare one vacation experience with others and find short comings, etc. However, not being wealthy, and loving to travel, I cannot go everywhere so i pick and choose the best fits for me at the time. Essentially, like you, I am "letting my own feelings" about what I expect to find at WDW now "make the decision about whether or not to return" to the world right now. Simple as that.
