Test Track Ride Question

I am visiting in fall and haven't ridden the new Test Track yet and I was hoping someone could help me clarify something.

If you go through the regular line you design a car, right?

Am I correct that by using FP+ you skip that part? Designing the car is important to my group so we have to do this at least once. Are you just assigned a car if you go FP+ or single rider?

And do you have unlimited time to design or do you have to do it fast. Like, will my DS get to strategize and play around or just have time to select quickly like the options on Spaceship Earth?

No, you design a car no matter which line you stand in. It was like you described in the beginning, I remember. But I was just there in April, used FP+ and designed cars each time. Enjoy! I know everyone has their own opinion, but I really like it since the changes. ….designing the car is really a plus for me. You do have a limited time, but it's reasonable and there is a countdown clock on your screen so that you can manage your time wisely. ::yes:: :thumbsup2: ::yes::

Yes, you get to design a car even if you go in the single rider line, I believe.

In the singles line all you have is a very minimal design, more like you only pick what attributes you want your car to have and then choose a car ,no real designing going on there. In fact most people skip it altogether.

I hope that's the case now. Back when it first opened, we did it at rope drop as standby and my nephews LOVED building their cars. They got an (old school) FP to do it again and skipped the car building room. They were super bummed. But as I said, it had just opened and CM's seemed very confused. So maybe now they've straightened it all out. This was a year and a half ago.

I didn't realise you didn't do the full design process. We had a single rider with us a couple of times and they were scanning their bands before we loaded so I just assumed that they had gone through the design process the same as us. I am glad you told me this as I was going to have my son go through the single rider line in October on the day we choose Soarin' as our Tier 1 FP+. I will warn him he will not be able to design a car.

There is a countdown timer on the screen as you design your car. Four minutes, maybe five--can't recall exactly.

I can confirm that both standby and FP queues do the full design experience. There are two design rooms and generally one is for each queue.

If you do the standby or FP line, you "have" to design the car. Meaning, you are assigned to a design station and you have to wait at it until the design period finishes (the 4 or 5 minutes mentioned). You can just stand there and not design the car, but you can't bypass this part of the queue. In the SRL, you can minimally "design" a car, but note that it is not require and in most cases, people will not wait behind you as you do your design (i.e., they'll go around you). It's easy to re-integrate into the line, but it's something to keep in mind.

Yes you can bypass the design studio. We do it all the time. You just push the back door open and walk out. It's not locked. LOL

If you cannot handle the wait area before the design studio or the crush afterwards there is also a way around those features as well.

If you are using a magic band it will remember your design so if you design one in the FP line if you go again in the SR line it will use your past design to compete with the other designs in your car so that is nice esp. If you designed a really cool one!

Earlier this month my family of four had single riders with us in our car and the woman next to me said it was a lot less designing than the regular line, she said she had done both. We had waited 20 min as a family, she had waited less than 10 in the single rider line.

To the OP, my DS really enjoyed the inter-actives after the ride. We rode it at rope drop with almost no wait, skipped the inter-actives to reenter the line to ride again, it was 20 min wait by 9:20 am, after the second ride we took our time. You can make a commerical with your car and email it home, you can "drive" your car on a virtual track, take photos to email home in cars etc.... We actually liked new TT quite a lot. :thumbsup2

Vicb- Thanks for chiming in. I think our group will love this as well! We're allocating a lot of time for Test Track on this trip since I have some car crazy people with me.

if you walk into to post-show area through the gift shop, there are some places back there where you can design a car as well. My daughter and I spent about 15 minutes designing our cars to perfection, then when in line, we were able to skip the design station part of the queue and jump in front of two rooms worth of people. Probably saved us 10-15 minutes of line waiting.

Sounds like a wash then. ;)

Did a CM direct you around the design rooms somehow?

yeah, time-wise it was a wash, but it was nice not to have to rush when designing the car. a CM saw us standing at the design station and asked if we were having any problems, we told him we had already designed our car and he told us to go ahead and walk on through. the next time, we walked on through with no issues.
