Hi All,
I was wondering has anyone took advantage of doing the Test track
tour as a GM employee. I work as a parts mgr. and was told to go to Test
Track with ID showing I work at a GM dealer and would recieve a tour and
ride. They say there's also a lounge upstairs for refreshments. Are you
aloud to come back to watch Illumanations from there? Any info would
help. My Rep. from GM say's others have done it with no problems although
he's never been there.

I've never watched illuminations from there or even thought to do it. I don't think you could see illuminations there as if i remember correctly the lounge looks out over the ride or into the area where the cars are. i don't believe it looked out to the park. We've used the test track GM entrance many many times and the lounge occassionally (who wants to sit in the lounge when you can be riding :confused3 ). its a great benefit as it saves you from any line at all with Test Track. The lounge benefits can vary. We've been and they've let my mom stay with the younger kids and us come back to get her and they've also told her she can't stay but must wait downstairs where the ride dumps out. Once you are done in the lounge and ready to ride then you let them know at the desk right outside the lounge and they give you the pass and directions to where to go to get on the ride. You will be stopped a couple times on the way to show the pass they give you and when you get to the ride loading area they put you on the next car loading. Its the best front of the line access I've found at Disney.:cool1: :woohoo:

No not with GM and Test Track, but when Wonder's of Life Pavilion was still open we went to the VIP room for Metlife. We didn't actually work there but we were close to our insurance rep so he got us passes to go in there. It was really neat. We just showed the card and they swooped us away and we got refreshments in a room with carousel horses on the walls and then we got to the front of the line on Body Wars. It was special. You should try it at Test Track!

We did it 5 years ago and plan to do it next week. It was as the above poster described it. We had someone walk us down to the ride though- was a nice thing. I only remember being able to look down on the ride---don't recall being able to see anything outdoors. Nice perk though!

The GM lounge is only open "business" hours. Something like M-F 9-5.

From the actual lounge area you can see outside, but only just. Even if the lounge was open you would not see Illuminations from the building.

This is about as far left as you can see towards the world showcase:

You can get a great shot of Spaceship Earth & Monorail, though!

What type of ID do you need to show? DW works for GMAC Financing. I read about this perk when we bought our WDW tixs. The only ID DW has is her business card.

DH used his business card not his actual Id.

They do have soft drinks for you. Though 1 time flat. 2nd time they were out of coke. So we have not had luck in that department.

When DD when to take your daughter to work day so though it was going be a very long day to get to epcot and back. She though DH went to Test Track every day. :rotfl2:

A CM at TT gave my DD6 a VIP pass up to the lounge. We went up to the lounge, used the restrooms, had a drink, etc. We felt a little funny b/c there was a business meeting going on in the middle of the room. We did relax on the very comfy chairs, admire the view, etc. Then we got to go right onto the ride without waiting in lines. Very cool!!

We have used this on each of our three trips to WDW. My husband is a manager of a Chev dealership. There is a door to the right of the main entrance of TT that you use. All you need is a business card and a photo id - the id is used I guess to make sure you are who you say you are. It is a really nice perk, we usually have a drink look out the window over the park and relax for a few minutes.

Hope this helps.

I have never been on this particular tour, but my grandfather was in the McDonald's corporation, and we were able to do this type of thing with the 'Dinosaur' attraction since it is sponsored by McDonald's. It was basically as described...we had somebody meet us, and take us upstairs for refreshments where we relaxed for a bit on nice leather couches. Then we got a little tour around, and and had a chance to watch some of the ride form above. When we were done walking around we were walked to our own car and off we went. It was really nice....I would say if u can get those kind of perks it was totally worth doing. :thumbsup2

We have done this many times. We only went into the lounge once though. Too excited to get into the car!!! It's an especially nice perk, because you get to completely skip the pre-show. I like the pre-show, but after you've seen it 30+ times.......

My husband is a GM employee and we have used this benefit many times. If you are there M-F during regular business hours (I think it is 9 - 5 as previous poster mentioned, but I am not positive.) behind the fast pass machines, as you are looking at the entrance, is the door you will use. Since it is your first time and you are not sure where to go, if you go in the exit, to the show room area, there is an information desk with cast members. They will be happy to show you where the door is. When you go through the door, you are in a hallway. At the end is a speaker and the elevator doors. Someone will say hello and something like please display your employee ID to the camera. (My husband's employee ID has a photo of him on it.) After they look it over, they will welcome you and open the elevator. You will ride up to the lounge. Follow the hallway around to the desk. They will have you sign in and then explain about the free Coke beverages. There is a small room with a couple tables, the coke machines and a glassed wall to the ride. It is dark in that section of the ride and hard to really see it well. Usually they will let you linger as long as you like. Sometimes if another party is coming up or they are busy, they will ask you to head on down to the ride. There is also a much larger area behind the welcome desk with chairs and a wall of windows that lets you view the area just outside the attraction entrance. (It does not face the direction of the fireworks.) You can see spaceship earth and there are some cute photo ops of your family holding up the "globe". There are also soft chairs and some large stuffed Mickey and Minnies. Also good photo ops. They also have very nice and clean bathrooms. When you are ready to ride, you let them know at the desk and they will either give you a card, or escort you to the ride. It is a bit of a maze down to the ride. (I assume that is how they backdoor the famous people.) When you get to the loading area a cast member will meet you and put you on the next car. It is really a nice perk. We enjoy getting away from the crowds and catching our breath, or enjoying the air conditioning for a few minutes. We usually make a plan of attack by spreading our park maps on the tables and deciding what to do the rest of the day.
If, you are there after the lounge is closed, or on a weekend; go in the exit to the information desk. They will check your ID and have you sign in there. They will then take you to the front of the ride. You will not get to go to the lounge, but you still get to front line the ride.
I am not sure what constitutes a GM employee. I would think a retiree would be fine, just don't forget a GM ID. The person on the ID must be present.
Have a great time at Disney and enjoy Test Track.

We did the Wonders of Life one as well back in '91. My dad was (and still is) a MetLife employee. It's been a long time but I still remember it being really cool, going into that side entrance and everything.

GMAC Finance is no longer part of GM. You might be able to trick them though, show the business card and her ID.

Do you work at a dealership in FL?

GMAC is still a part of GM - GM just doesn't own all of it, only 51%.

We used the lounge and got refreshements and used the bathrooms before we went on the ride. It was nice. My brother in law did not have his badge (he wore it the whole day before at AK) but has to write some stuff down and we were fine. You cannot see Illuminations from there.

You can also skip the line even if the lounge is closed. Just go in through the exit door and show your badge or business card to the CMs at the counter where the new vehicles are. They will give you a pass to go up the exit ramp of the ride. Usually my son and I get a car to ourselves! :thumbsup2
