Test Track: Alternative themes

I'm sure everyone will agree that the technology for Test Track is top notch and that zipping down the straightaway at 65MPH is a first rate thrill. However, some people, including me, may wonder what alternative themes could have been employed to make it a better overall attraction other than the current 'car testing' theme. I'd love to hear any ideas. (I suppose this could have gone in the Imagineering section but I'm not looking for the awesome details and drawings that posters come up with over there).

My two thoughts were 1) James Bond - being in the Astin Martin escaping from some disaster, or 2) a Rally Car race where you careen through a terrain (mtns, seaside, or perhaps snow) complete with your partner saying "easy left or hairpin right," and dust kicking up around the turns.

Any other ideas?

Honestly, to me test track is ok, but I would have rather they kept World of Motion.

I never experienced the World of Motion so I can't compare it to that, but do like TT very much. The original concept, so I've heard, was supposed to zip you to 100 mph or something, but GM wouldn't sponser it if it went that fast, so they slowed it down. The test car idea is a good one, but it would have also been neat to make it a test drive experience. Go to the dealer to check out a new car (whatever new thing GM is touting) and the dealer takes you for a spin and shows you the features. I dunno, I can't think of stuff like that, that's why I'm not an Imagineer!

I like TT the way it is too... it is a nice family concept. :moped:

I like the dealer idea. It reminds me a bit of Bill Paxton and Arnold road testing the car in True Lies.

100MPH - that would be something.

Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo Disney Sea uses similar technology but it's a better attraction because of the theming. You don't go as fast, but you do accelerate rapidly uphill then dip down, which is a terrific sensation.

I'm one for the old Disney.

There was a definitive story, and an even more elaborate backstory. To give a short example of what I mean by backstory...think about the French Fry cart that sits on the path between Frontierland and Adventureland, way at the back of that section - near Pecos Bill's. The Cart was on the hill, but it slid off, and you can see the sign that changed establishment dates. Little things like that.

I don't get that feel out of Test Track.

And I think that's why World of Motion has the edge over Test Track (if you take the thrill out of the equation). There's not that sub-concious level of story-telling with Test Track.

Don't get me wrong though, I love Test Track!

I'd love something that was totally original - and NOT based on a movie.

For example:

A villain-type guy has developed a car that was designed to act as a bomb on an area. It looks like any other car, but inside, it functions like a spy car with neat gadgets, and incredible speed capacity, and obviously houses a bomb.

You've been assigned to break into this villain's lab, get the car, and take it for a test drive to figure out how to disable the thing. While you're trying to figure it out - as so often happens in Disney attractions - something goes awry and you end up activating the speed. By the end of the ride, you've figured out how to control the speed, and de-activate the bomb.

Kudos.

You saved the world.

AND that lame attempt is why I won't EVER be an imagineer! :)

I like it actually. I would imagine that the Imagineers' hands were tied by GM when they designed TT. I'm sure they could come up with amazing themes for this technology.
