Just wondering if any one has a Tesco credit card, in particular a platinum one.

Fiona and myself have one (seperate accounts ;) ) and have both had problems in the past couple of weeks.

These cards are very rarely used, mines has only been used twice in the past 11 months and Fiona's was used last in November.

We have both received separate telephone calls, hers last week and mines today from the fraud department saying someone is trying to buy of the internet, - mostly easyjet on Fionas for amounts around £400 - £500.

We still have both cards in our possession, although they have now been cancelled and there was absolutley no hassle when the transactions were denied by us (shows they must have a decent system for catching the bad ones), but to my knowledge, there has been no way that any receipts were left lying about and the cards have never been used on the internet.

I work with credit cards and know about all the little tricks that some unscrupulous (sp?) people can get up to with them, but I am pretty certain these cards have never been tampered with.

Now beginning to wonder if there is a problem with the Tesco card. ie the start number is very close to another companys number or something like that and would be very intrested to hear if anyone else has had a problem with their card.

Thanks

David.

Yes, I have one - but not platinum. I haven't (as yet!) had any problems with mine, other than noticing I'm coming close to the expiry date and haven't had a replacement yet.

Hope you get your sorted out :)

:teeth: very good

The plot thickens .... these purchases where made over the internet, now for internet purchases, I have just realised that you need the security number off the back of the card. As I had said before, this card has only been used twice in its lifetime of eleven months - never on the internet and never been out of my sight. :(

To be continued ....

DH & I both have Tesco CCs - had them since they first came out ( think that was '98 or '99?) We use them a lot and have never had a problem.

They have called a couple of times recently when large amounts went out of the account to ensure that the money spent on the card was indeed being spent by us, In fact those calls were almost instant and I have to say I was impressed.

They explained that they were cracking down on fraud and so were double-checking that it was us using the card.
One of those calls was when I'd just spent a lot of money (over £500) on the internet but the other occasions were not.

I'm sure I haven't given the security number for 95% of purchases I've made on the internet. It has made me stop and think twice on the few occasions I have been asked for it.

Maybe things have changed recently regarding this, as I'm thinking back to purchases over a number of years.

Got to agree, it's impressive that they watch for any strange purchases. I am certainly glad they were on the ball this time. :)

have the Tesco CC and neither of us have had a problem.

Until ..........

A couple of weeks ago I bought the entertainment book off the internet and Tesco called my husband (primary card holder) to see if all was ok because the transaction was in dollars. My silly husband thought something dodgy was going on and cancelled the cards not realising it was me who made the so called "dodgy" transaction!

A few days later we received our new cards and a few days after that we received aour pin numbers. They now use the new system where you are given a machine to type your pin number in when using your CC in supermarkets etc.

Because my card was cancelled my entertainment book order was cancelled too and since reordering nothing has arrived as yet.

Me & DH have had Tesco CC's since they came out and have never had a problem. I'm sorry about your experience but in some ways it is reassuring they are taking fraud so seriously and act promptly.

did you cancel the cards or did they do it from that orignal phone call, what l'm trying to say is it wasn't one of them scam calls was it?

Not sure if your question was directed at me, but shall answer anyway. Yes my husband (like a fool) cancelled our cards - thought he was doing right.

Sorry Holly it was directed at David,(just a thought although he sounds like he cluded up). My husband would probaly have done something like that if he had any idea what he was doing:rolleyes:

My dad lost his wallet the other week and his wife cancelled all their cards, he then found it about an hour later on the parcel shelf in the car which was safetly looked in the garage, she wasn't impressed but you can't be to careful.

Go gentle with him, they do try to do their best

Hi Marie

Tesco cancelled my card, they didn't ask for, and were not given any card numbers, security numbers or even my address when they called.

They only checked month of birth and first two letters of mothers maiden name to establish who they were speaking to.

I, too am very careful with these calls, especially the latest scam thats flying around, but no, glad to say it was genuine. - My new card arrived this morning. :D

It seems to be a pretty good service Tesco are giving, although I am still very puzzled how anyone could have used this card on the internet.

David :D

l'm glad its all worked out David but as you say it would be nice to know how it could have happened. Have Tesco had any thoughts on it.

When we do a transaction over the internet ie for flights, tickets and accomadation i inform CC people before the transaction also tell them if it is in $ and when we are over there the dates we are traveling the more info they have the less chance of misuse of your card. With flights last may with Expedia CC would not be acepted so phoned CC poeple up and they told me it was a new security thing so inform them what your plans are it will help you in the long run
