Terms that annoy you

"It's not fair"

It's bad enough coming from my children ~ but I'm hearing it more and more from so called adults. I just want to ask "How old are you?":headache:
Nah - the proper answer is, "Life's not fair." followed by, depending on the complainer's age, "Get used to it", or "How old are you, again?" :rotfl2:

OT

About every other post seems to begin with OT, but it is a community board. Is there actually a topic to stay on??

Haven't read this entire thread, but the ones that bug me are the aforementioned cutsie abreviations:

ressie
sammie (I HATE this one)

Aspie (I HATE this one more)

preggers
perp

furbaby

"a hill to die on" - what does it matter if you die on a hill or anywhere else?

"the short bus"

My secretary used to say "ain't" all the time. It drove me crazy. I understand that it is common in some families, but when you are a professional secretary in an academic medical center, you should make an effort to speak properly.

"Anyways" instead of anyway is a big one for me.

UGH, and that whole "Wazzzzzzz uuuuuup?" thing from a while back made me want to beat my head against a wall.

I use "Epic Fail" all the time. I think it's a kinder way to describe someone's actions than what I'm really thinking!

I try not to allow too many trivial things to annoy me. However, the proliferation of "cutesy" yet pointless abbreviations on these boards does sometimes make me grit my teeth.

"We got ressies at Cindy's and we're staying at the Poly on our vaca."

Stop that! Stop it now! Cease and desist!

On the other hand, I enjoy using "not so much" verbally.

Its a No Brainer!

There is No Such Thing as a No Brainer..

At least a small amount of brain power is needed for even the most basic things in life. :confused3

Oohhhh, Vaca. That one is a BAD one. I think I said ressies already. If not, I will now.

A word that annoys me is "phenomenal". Maybe just because I know someone that will use it 17 times in a conversation - "that restaurant is phenomenal" and "that band is phenomenal".

Also, someone at work uses the phrase "various and sundry things" all the time! It drives me nuts - how about you just have to go and buy groceries, not groceries and various and sundry things!

I simply cannot read through the entire thread, otherwise I'll probably get annoyed, so heres my contribution...

:headache: EeVeeOhOh :faint:

gack.

EVOO/Delish/yummo (can you tell I don't like Rachael Ray? )
Any dimmuative address to me-dear, honey, sweetie. Unless you're my mother, don't. Thank you.
Can "Heath" be a term. The name is Heath-ER, not Heath. Need to shorten it, try HT, Hedy or something, but PLEASE do not call me Heath. Thank you.

Does it drive any parents here totally crazy when their kids text message them in texting abbreviations? I've always wondered whether they tolerate it or make a phone call to ask "What in the world did you just say?!":rotfl:
And someone told me "People who text me that way will find out REALLY fast that I'm not gonna sit down and decipher their garbage!":lmao:

Diva

Unless you have performed in an opera, you are not a frickin' diva...

Ugh, THANK YOU. I can't believe I forgot to mention that one. That's probably one of my single most hated terms EVER. Blech. :headache:

"politically correct" seems to be nothing correct with "EITHER" side. Disclamer: not an attempt to hijack:thumbsup2

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, abbreviated. Most every time I've heard it said, people follow it with what it stands for, so it defeats the purpose of abbreviating. I don't think it really caught on.

Oh, thanks..

I thought it was some sort of referance to an "EMO" kid or something.
