It apparently is going to be shutting down in the next few years to open up Avatar 4-D, which Cameron is once again going to work on.

From Screamscape:

Over the last few weeks I’ve been hearing whispers of a possible attraction concept in the works to replace Terminator 2: 3-D at Universal Hollywood. Ironicly enough, today the LA Times also reported that T2:3-D in Hollywood is on the short list of attractions on the chopping block over the next few years. The Orlando version of the attraction has also been rumored to be up for replacement as well for the past few years.
If the rumors are true, Universal may be in talks with James Cameron once again about creating a new 4D attraction, this time based on the Avatar film series. Yes… I said series. There are now two more films in the works, tentatively planned to be shot back to back and released in 2014 and 2015. The hope is to release the new Avatar attraction into the parks in time to take advantage of all the hype these two films generate, so I’d look for it to open by Summer 2014 if they go through with it.

This doesn't surprise me for a few reasons...

First, there have been 2 other terminator movies since that attraction came out, so it's past its prime...also it's probably one of the more expensive attractions to run, with the actors, and all of the live elements to them.

If they DO make it an Avatar attraction (which I have also heard rumors about from other places) I wonder what will make it more "special" than the 3D movies at the theaters...they will have to raise the bar to make it worth it, IMO

i personally think making it a ride where the E.T. attraction is more worth it. A show? I dont know...

I wish that they would just spruce up this attraction and put Avatar elsewhere. Terminator is a great place to go in the middle of the afternoon and it still gets cheers and applause. Oh well, we'll just go to the Horror Makeup Show to rest I guess.

I like the other rumour about Jimmy Neutron being replaced by Despicable Me.

Can't say I'd be sad to see Terminator go. We usually skip it.

I love rumours!!!

They really need to update certain things, that's for sure. I would like both the rumors mentioned here. With all the new Potter fans invading US, they really need to bring the Studios a little more up to date. I would personally miss ET and Jaws if they were replaced, though.

Another possible rethemed attraction is Disaster somehow getting changed or integrated into the King Kong attraction at Universal Hollywood.

They recently redid a big part of Disaster so I can't imagine them changing that again so soon. They could redo E.T. as far as I'm concerned but I hope that they'd work the queue into the new attraction.

If they're going to remove an existing attraction, I vote for Twister

I was always sad that they got rid of the old King Kong ride....I wonder if they regret that decision because of the popularity of the King Kong movie that came out a few years back.

ChrisFl....I also agree....Twister has to go. I also think Jaws is at its end. Its down half the time anyways.

Jimmy Neutron just makes me sick to ride, but then again, so did BTTF and now Simpsons, so I just avoid those rides.

I am up in the air about Terminator. I go to that attraction about every other trip. It is nice on a hot afternoon to go into the show, and yes, it is entertaining, however, if they got rid of it, I don't know if I would be incredibly disappointed.

::yes:: I still feel robbed that they took Ghostbusters and gave us THAT. Twister is a total waste IMHO. I'd love to see it replaced with just about anything.

Yes! I love Despicable Me (and so do my boys ;) ).

We like Terminator. I would hate to see it go. I was a little excited when I saw Avatar but I was thinking of the cartoon, not the movie (Airbender) I would be way more excited over Airbender. We just aren't fans of the movie Avatar. It was just okay. As to ET we love it. I know it's kind of lame but we love it none the less.

The next Avatar is rumored to take place underwater, or at least a good bit of it. Maybe they'll replace Jaws with an Avatar attraction eventually, too. ;)

This really upsets and angers me. I really do not like them taking away attractions. I don't care if they get a little outdated. It seems to me its just as easy to add, and not take attractions away. I don't mind them adding new things, welcome that of course, but to tear down everything else.:mad::mad::mad:

They should really utilize the buildings that haven't been touched in years. Like, the old building for Murder That She Wrote.

I personally think Terminator is okay every once in awhile.

We always got a chuckle out of the show when our governor showed up as the hero. Now we almost expect Jerry Brown (that's the new and old California governor) to show up on the motorcycle.

Our favorite part, though, is a quasi-inside joke in the pre-show. During the video extolling the greatness of Cyberdyne, they include a segment where a basketball player has implanted a bionic eye, as he prepares to shoot a free throw, with the voice-over saying "with the probability of error reduced to absolute zero" as the ball swishes through the net.

What they don't say, although no doubt many guests will notice, is that the player happens to be Shaq, who is famously a TERRIBLE free-throw shooter.

the T2 experience is an awesome one!!

If the feel the need to bring in Avatar do it in a different building!!

and E.T. i love so much because it is so simple yet still mind blowing..leave it alone please

Oh MY GOD! Really? WHAT A HIDDEN GEM OF INFORMATION!!

What many people do not know is that in the early 90s, Shakeel played for the Orlando Magics!
