Did anyone catch her speech last night on the DNC? When she first came on I wasn't so sure, but after she got going I was really impressed. She seemed very genuine, warm and sincere. I loved the fact that she's multi-lingual and that she's a woman with her own opinions and proud of it. I think she'll be a great asset to Kerry and the democrats.

Anyone else see it?

She may have a lot to offer, but it's going to get lost if she doesn't learn how to have some tact. You don't lose your temper in public like that. It may be genuine and all that, but it offends too many people.
And not that flattering for the first lady.

I WANT to like her.

But I have to agree with Serena. She needs some lessons on tact and poise. The other day when she snapped at the reporter, she reminded me of a drunk. Also, wasn't the reporter correct? She seemed out of control.

Again, I want to like her, she just rubbed me the wrong way the other day.

She's going to be a great first lady! Read about Eleanor Roosevelt, not all first ladies have sat with their hands in their
laps folded. I'm thankfull she has some spunk and I hear she
can cuss like a vice president -glad she just said "shove it." :)
It's 2004, women have been fighting for equal rights, money,
treatment since the early 1900's. Aren't we ready to lose that
stereotypical view of women yet? I'm sorry Laurie but I don't
see why things have to be "flattering" to the first lady or anyone
at a top government level when the gloves are off. And, in case
you're not watching TV, the gloves are off. Ron Reagan's speech
last night was described as "ghoulish" and "creepy." This was
some conservative pundit with a bowtie-I don't know his name
but he must have been watching Haunted Mansion instead of
Reagan's speech about stem cell research.

Would that have been Tucker Carlson perhaps?

I thought Teresa was terrific. Like she said, women who think for themselves are called "opinionated" and not in a flattering way. Men are "strong" and "well informed" when they speak for themselves.

I for one am excited that we will have a first lady who will do more than gaze lovingly at their husband. Even though many things have changed for women and we have many more opportunites some things will unfortunately never change. Too many men remain intimidated by strong and intelligent women.

I think that she was just being assertive with the reporter. She just isn't one of those conservative women who does everything that the husband tells her to do. She speaks from the heart. I love that term!:D I would rather see a first lady with her own mind and personality, than a robotic stepford anyday!;)

I don't have a problem with her being strong, opinionated or anything like that. I have a problem with her behavior with the reporter. There is a middle ground between sitting with your hands folded batting your eyes at your man, and the way she acted with the reporter.
I'm sorry. But I expect someone in her position to have manners. And not just her, I expect people, men and women that are in the public to have manners and be respectful. I know it's too much to ask.

My favorite quote:

My only hope is that, one day soon, women who have all earned the right to their opinions, instead of being labeled opinionated, will be called smart or well-informed, just as men are.

I thought this had happened until recently. Instead some people still use this antiquated attitude about a "woman's place" a reason to criticize and insult a femaile.

I've always been this way, and will always be this way.

I hope it happens in my lifetime, or at least in my son's.

ITA!

Her remark to the reporter was un-warranted.

I also agree that I expect all people, men and women that are public figures to have manners and be respectful on both sides of the fence.

Oh for God's sake there are plenty of strong, opinionated women who aren't criticized for it because they also have something called tact.

Excuse me while I laugh out loud!!!!

She was asked what she meant when she used the term "un-American" which she denied saying but she clearly did say it. Assertive? She was being defensive because she got caught.

And being conservative somehow means your a stepford wife?

If I recall correctly, Mrs. Carter was a pretty tame first lady.

Excuse me while I snicker at all of the sour grapes type of rhetoric on here. You know you conservatives are running scared now! Wasn't the convention great so far? Didn't it inspire you with hope for our nation? I don't even feel the need to respond to the "Bushie" fanatics anymore. I'm just that confident.:sunny:

I don't know, I didn't realize that Elwood Blues was considered a Bushie fanatic. If you want to label him as such thats your choice.

I wish some people would open their eyes and care more about whats good for the country, than always worry about being right!::yes::

Wow, ITA! I just may disagree on what IS best!

I like her.

I honestly haven't paid much attention to the details behind the "Shove It" story and just assumed she finally got fed up with the pack of reporters assigned to hound her every move for months. In every campaign, the canidates and their wives are "caught" with the wrong words coming out of their mouths at least once or twice. They get frustrated and lose it, microphones that they thought were off were actually on... they didn't realize who was behind them... etc etc etc

I think those stories are usually funny, but not very relevant.

Hey, at least she didn't drop the F-Bomb like a certain Vice President.

:p

Here's an idea -- Let's just beat her! Tar and feather her! Ride her on a rail out of town!

C'mom -- I know you guys have better reasons to dislike Kerry :confused3 .

Focusing on this just makes it look like you don't.....

I admit, I don't know too much about the shove it story, but it's been publicized to generate a lot of buzz, which it has. I just don't think it warrants that much attention.

I agree that the convention has been very motivating, uplifting and inspirational. I don't want to argue politics with anyone--everyone has and is entitled to their own opinion. I just found her to be quite motivating and I'm looking forward to John Edwards' speech tonight. This is the first time in a very long time that I'm feeling optimistic about our political leaders.
