I would LOVE to eat at Teppanyaki, but my MIL will be with us and she eats very plain food, like chicken and steak. She doesn't care for marinated or spicy meats. Is there anything on the menu she'd be able to eat?

I think she would love it. The chicken, steak and seafood isn't cooked in any type of spices that I could tell. I know they use oil on the grill and I believe they put seasame seeds on the veggies but I think that is it. The dipping sauces are what gives it the great taste. It really is very plain food in my opinion. I haven't been there in about two years so it may have changed but for the previous 8 years it seemed pretty plain to me.

Probably just about everything. I recall the food as very plainly prepared - basically just grilled. The sauces are all on the side in small bowls (for dipping). You also get white rice with the meal. I've had the chicken, steak, and shrimp entrees and found them all very good.

Best wishes-

I think they do add a bit of soy sauce when they cook the food, but not much. DS doesn't like really spiced/flavored food and he ate a lot when we were there.

We were just there last week and it was wonderful! Everyone who has posted so far is absolutely right-the food is prepared very simply with just the sesame seeds and a bit of soy sauce & freshly ground black pepper added. Not spicy or "exotic." It is this simple prep that makes it so wonderful as the real flavors of the food come out. So good! I am sure your MIL will be fine. Of course, I am not sure of how she will feel about the seaweed sampler or or the appetizers! heehee

Do you know if you are able to get a side instead of an appetizer when on the dining plan?

Teppanyaki did not offer any side dishes per say. When we were there last week, every TS as well as CS meal came with sides. More than enough food! With the appetizer choices, ordering another side never occured to us. In my opinion, I would order the appetizer and if there was another side you really wanted, you could pay OOP for it. Sure it would be less money that way anyway. Hope this helps! :flower: :flower:

Was there the option of having fried rice instead of white rice with your meal? We have a Japanese Steakhouse at home and it's the kids favorite.. Just wondering how similar the food might be! Thanks!

AFAIK, only steamed rice is offered.

Best wishes -

If she really is a picky eater, she also has the option of not getting the habachi dinner. For year my oldest would just order a bowl of rice & the "Chicken appetizer" for his meal. Check out the meanus at allearsnet.com

My niece and mother went with us to Teppanyaki a couple of years ago. The above posters are correct, not spicy at all. For the truly picky, that didn't help their opinion. It was a very different experience for them, and they would not eat. I thought I could 'broaden their horizons'. Nope, they didn't budge. They loved Le Cellier, Chef Mickey's, and other food they recognized. I thought Teppanyaki was really good, as did the rest of my immediate family, but we have a very different outlook!

I think my MIL would be the same way. Guess it's better to go to some place where she'd be happy. The last time we went to Epcot with her she picked Rose & Crown (I think that's the name). That place was not my cup of tea. The only thing that looked appealing to me was the fish fry and I couldn't even eat that. I have to be very careful about what I eat. Too much fat and/or red meat really upsets my stomach.

The rest of the family absolutely loved Ohana, but MIL didn't like it at all and won't go back.

If you ask, they will prepare your MIL's food without any of the usual seasonings. I.e., plain white rice, plain grilled chicken (minimal oil or butter so it doesn't burn), etc. If the rest of you will enjoy the food, go! :)

We just ate there last week and both of our kids are pretty picky eaters, especially when it comes to spices, and everyone loved the meal. It was definitely in our top three for the nine days we spent at WDW. I would highly recommend Teppanyaki, and you can let the chef know if you do not care for certain veggies, etc.

I agree with MHopkins2. If they are asked, they likely prepare with just a little butter or oil and no seasonings. If you would really like to eat there, I hope that you can.
