Teppanyaki, explain this place

Up to eight guests sit around three sides of a steel cooking surface. A chef cooks your meal right in front of you while also doing tricks with his utensils. The food is good, but the best part is/can be the company. Unless you are a party of eight, you will be dinning with unknown guests at the same table. This makes for some great conversation. Don't be bashfull to ask "Where ya from" or "Where ya stayin'). The meal will take about an hour so plan accordingly.

Although since you are seated around a grill, conversation can be difficult. With six of us, I don't even know who we shared a table with - they were at the far end and I couldn't have talked to them if I wanted to - I couldn't talk to members of my own party.

There is about two feet of table between you and the grill, and the grill edges are warm/hot (the center of the grill is VERY HOT).

The food comes out raw - everyone's food comes out together. I can't imagine its a good place for anyone with a shellfish allergy. The food is Japanese stir fry - meat of your choice with some veggies.

I have pictures of our meal at Teppanyaki this summer. I tried to snap pictures every step of the way, as the chef prepared our meal :)

Before the chef comes out, a server will take your drink orders and ask if you want any appetizers. She also brought out small dishes of a seaweed-salad. Blech! LOL I have pictures of this on my site, too. lol

I'm suprised to read you couldn't carry a conversation with your guests. The dinning area does tend to be noisy, but I don't ever recall any difficulty talking to other guests ( we've eaten there at least a dozen times). Maybe we all just had big mouths. Maybe we were the reason you guys couldn't hear each other at your table.

We just ate there last Tues. and the food was wonderful! We were a party of 6 so there was a coulple seated with us. It turned out that she worked for Disney Reservations and we talked a little. Conversation is rather difficult because they were seated at the far side of us and with all the dishes and utensils clanging you had to speak rather loudly wich contibuted to the decible levels.
This was one of our family's favorites!

Great information everyone....and pictures SeaSpray! I looked at your whole site.

We are a party of 9 though!! How does that work? One is a baby though and would be in a highchair. Should I make a ressie for 8 and then let them deal with her? Will they put her on a corner? Or will they split us up, which isn't too much of a big deal, we are a party of 4 and 5, so it would work.

Also, do you order the meat you want and the rest is the same?

Better off just dropping her off over in China.

Just kidding...they will bring out a hi chair.

All the vegies are home style. Your entree order is basically your meat/chicken/seafood/combo selection. They cook the red meats to your preference. Similar meat cuts with the same doneness requests are cooked together then the chef div'ies the pieces up amongst the dinners.

PS: Everyone is brought their own bowl of white rice.

HEY! We sat across from you guys!!!!! We were a party of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids) that filled the table next to yours! We overheard your conversation with the couple about the dining plan and how she said sometimes it is a hard sell. We wanted to join in but it was kind of loud and we would have had to yell.
It was a good dinner - the steak was perfectly cooked and I loved the ginger cake! Glad you had a good time too!

They will put the baby at the corner near the end. The cooktop will burn you and the corner area is where they put our little ones (but they were in a booster, not a high chair).

We had so much fun eating there on our last trip. It was the highlight of our trip! The food was great and the chef was so fun!!!

If there are any vegetarians in your party, the chef cooks the veggie meal first by itself.

You'll have a great time. :)

My kids were on the end. I was next to my kids. My husband was next to me - I could converse easily with my kids and my husband. My mother in law was next to my husband - I could talk with her across my husband, not easily, but I could do it. To talk to her sister, who was seated next to her, I had to talk across my husband and my mother in law. Possibly doable, but not easy....or perhaps its my upbringing, I was taught its rude to talk across people. So I ended up talking to my husband and kids, my mother in law and her sister talked. But there wasn't much talking going on anyway....the show the chef put on was followed by eating.

At a traditional rectangular table, I find I can't talk to everyone if the table seats more than eight. With this sort of bench seating, you don't have someone (except the chef) across from you which further limits how many people you can carry on a conversation with.
