Teppan Edo

We are almost to our 180 day and I'm trying to get our dining in order. Can anyone tell me if tepen edo has shrimp sauce with the hibachi? The last time we were there -it's been years- they had a sauce that resembled a ranch and while it was ok we all really missed the shrimp sauce that we get here at home. This may be our deciding factor as to whether we try tepen edo again. Thanks so much!

I've never heard of shrimp sauce. We had dinner at Teppan Edo last month and had ginger sauce and yum yum sauce.

That’s a new one to me too. Sounds like something unique to your home restaurant maybe?

I've heard of it but never had it. It's a mayo based sauce used in Japanese American cuisine and probably came into being during the Kewpie mayo craze of the first decade of the 21st century.
Does TE serve it? I've no idea but then I dinna know they ever served ranch dressing either.

I've honestly never heard of that at TE myself.

The first Japanese Teppanaki restaurant opened in Jacksonville over 35 years ago and have always had shrimp sauce so it is not a new thing. Pretty much every Japanese restaurant I have been to offer it. In Publix's International aisle they sell jars of "Yum Yum sauce" It looks like very much like the sauce you find in the Japanese restaurants, so maybe the Yum Yum sauce at TE is shrimp sauce.

Btw. although Teppanaki and Hibachi are used interchangeable. Historically a hibachi grill was a wood/charchol fired grill with open grates.

We call it shrimp sauce where we live but ive heard it called yum yum sauce. As long as they have that we're good. None of us likes the ginger sauce. Thanks so much!!

They have the yellow "yum yum" sauce. At one time, I think they also had a red spicier sauce.
