We have never been to Teppan Edo. We go to Benihana's for birthdays and one son loves it and the other who doesn't much like Japanese food could take it or leave it.( He only eats the chicken breast and some fried rice but that is his choice.) My kids are teens and I am wondering if it is worth going to Teppan Edo or will it be a lot like Benihana's at home? We will only be going to WDW this one time from California so I am trying to pick restaurants they will be unique and good for teens.

No fried rice at Teppan Edo. Steamed only.

It is like a Benihana but with a more limited menu.

As pp said, no fried rice - noodles similar to lomein. Other than that can't say until after we've eaten there on May 7.

I like going to teppan edo great service and food... but it is very similar to your at home japanese style restaurant. The first time we were there the cook put on a really good show but the second time he was just ok....I guess it just depends on the cook you get.

I would say to pass on this one. It has that same feel of the hibachi "show" as they cook the food in front of you. There is no fried rice. The portions are small, not like what you would get at Benihana, but the food is cooked in the same way, less flavorful though.

We have eaten there a few times, and have now crossed it off of our list!

What about Coral Reef? It has a great atmosphere, though you will get mixed reviews about it.

Thanks for your replies. I will skip Tepan Edo.

I have Coral Reef reserved along with Primetime Cafe, SciFi Diner, Yak and Yeti, Ohana, Biergarten, Hoop de Doo, Fantasmic dining Hollywood and Dine, and TRex which are all ones that people have said teens would like for the most part so I think we at least have a nice variety of other things.

I say pass, its average and I ejoy the Yokoso, Wasabi and Miyabis here better..The fried rice is my fave and Teppan doesnt have it.

It is a must do for us each trip. It is MUCH better than our local Japanese steakhouse. That said, it is like a Benihana's. No fried rice, traditional Japanese white rice.
It is a beautiful restaurant - much nice than any chain, with great service.
Enjoy your trip.

I agree with this assessment of Teppan Edo. We had the best steak of our entire trip there. I wonder if the people who say it is nothing special have tried their filet mignon. It melts in your mouth and has tremendous flavor. My daughter ordered the large shrimp (which is included in the dining plan for children). It was the most outstanding meal of our 15-day trip!

We also like Wolfgang Puck Cafe. Each time, the food has been excellent.

I would not do Hollywood & Vine for dinner. I would skip the Fantasmic Dinner Package, if that was the only option. The Fantasmic Dinner Package seats are not that great anyway, and you still have to wait in line for them. Mama Melrose or Brown Derby are a much better option for dinner at the Studios, as is Primetime Cafe and Sci-Fi Dine Inn (hamburgers).

Your other choices look great. The teens should have a blast!
